What does a food and beverage manager do?

A food and beverage manager—or food and beverage service manager—orders and maintains the food and beverage inventory of a restaurant or food service company. As a food and beverage manager, your responsibilities include managing orders and budgets, and maintaining vendor relationships. Also, you may handle schedules and administrative duties, such as employee and financial reports for the owners. Often, a general manager may also take on the responsibilities of a food and beverage manager.

To thrive as a Food and Beverage Manager, you need expertise in hospitality management, food safety regulations, and inventory control, often supported by a degree in hospitality or related certifications. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, restaurant management software, and health and safety certification is typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you motivate teams and ensure customer satisfaction. These skills are essential for maintaining smooth operations, meeting quality standards, and achieving business goals in a dynamic environment.
