Job description

The position of Fleet Manager I is of great significance to Valley Wide Cooperative. The primary function of this position is to operate a diverse fleet delivering supplies to our internal and external customers to include propane, refined fuels, lubricants, fertilizer, crop protection chemicals, feed, and farm supplies. The Fleet Manager I must be a self-starting hard-working, innovative, detail-oriented, and creative team player as a full-time employee. The Fleet Manager I excels in working in a team, contributes to the positive Co-op culture, is confident in holding others accountable, and is highly self-motivated.

Job Summary:

These are the basic requirements of the position and must be performed competently.

  • Perform organization and administrative tasks to monitor, maintain and improve Coop Shared Services transportation processes.
  • Collaborate with senior management, location managers, supervisors, and employees to achieve fleet compliance.
  • Evaluate general liability insurance policy to ensure most cost-efficient and maximum risk protection for all applicable employees.
  • Ensure fleet program is fully complying with US DOT, State and local laws and regulations.
  • Manage the registration, licensing, and permitting for all vehicles and associated employees.
  • Maintain detailed records of vehicle purchases, assignments, registrations, permits, inspections, and safety requirements.
  • Oversee driver eligibility for all employees to ensure compliance with applicable US DOT regulations and guidance.
  • Train location admins and other managers in DOT processes and procedures to help maintain compliance with all DOT regulations.
  • Interact, report, and provide company representation to regulatory bodies relating to aspects of transportation affairs, compliance matters, and enforcement actions.
  • Drug and alcohol clearinghouse administrator.
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Portal Administrator.
  • Manage data collection for compliance, mileage, and tax fillings, as required by federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
  • A minimum of experience 5 years in a fleet leadership/management role is required.
  • Thorough understanding regulatory requirements, including DOT and Hazardous Materials, reporting and other federal, state, and local laws.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications and presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office 365 skills to include, but not limited to, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced knowledge of US DOT regulations, familiarity with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) General Industry, and other applicable regulatory guidance.
  • Must be able to make appropriate decisions and execute them according to policy.
  • Must exhibit a professional and positive image.
