Job description

The Opportunity
As a Finance Data Governance Consultant within Finance Transformation, you will help ensure MassMutual operates from a trusted Single Source of Truth. In this role, you will support governance and oversight of financial data domains by maintaining authoritative data, enforcing data quality standards, and ensuring accurate metadata, lineage, and controls. You will partner closely with senior domain owners, data stewards, technology teams, and business users to strengthen confidence in financial data used for reporting, analysis, and decision-making.
The Team
The Finance Data Management team enables trusted, high-quality financial data through strong governance, stewardship, and partnership across Finance and Technology. Our work supports strategic decision-making, operational excellence, and regulatory confidence.
The Impact
In this role, you will strengthen the integrity of MassMutual's financial data by ensuring it is accurate, well-governed, and aligned to Single Source of Truth principles. Your work will reduce operational and reporting risk through proactive data quality monitoring and issue resolution, while increasing trust and accessibility of financial data across Finance, Technology, and business partners. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
Data Governance
  • Maintain complete and accurate metadata, lineage, and catalog entries for assigned finance data domains
  • Identify and document Critical Data Elements (CDEs), including definitions, transformation logic, lineage, and data quality rules
  • Validate daily data loads against governance and quality standards; investigate anomalies and coordinate remediation
  • Monitor data quality (completeness, accuracy, timeliness) and resolve issues surfaced by users or operational controls
  • Enforce internal control standards related to data governance and data quality monitoring

Operational Support for Data Quality & Stewardship
  • Act as first line of defense for production data issues by confirming validity, diagnosing root causes, and coordinating fixes
  • Provide regular updates to data owners and stewards on domain health, open issues, and quality trends
  • Support onboarding of new data into governed finance schemas, ensuring quality checks, metadata, lineage, and ownership are established
  • Partner with technology teams to improve data processes by reducing manual effort, increasing automation, and strengthening controls

Catalog, Lineage & Metadata Maintenance
  • Maintain accurate catalog content including business definitions, quality rules, ownership, and stewardship relationships
  • Document and maintain transformation rules, validation logic, and reconciliation controls to support transparency and auditability

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or in lieu of a degree, High School Diploma and 7+ years of professional experience
  • 3+ years of experience in financial data management or related roles
  • 3+ years identifying, monitoring, and remediating data quality issues, including daily data load validation and CDEs

Ideal Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in financial data management, financial shared services, reporting, or regulatory environments
  • Demonstrated experience with data governance activities, including stewardship engagement, catalog maintenance, and data quality documentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes
  • Strong communication, relationship-building and organizational skills with the ability to partner across Finance, Technology, and Data Management
  • Experience with tools such as SQL, Alteryx, Power BI, Collibra, SAP, or Anaplan
  • Proven ability to work with enterprise data teams to onboard data, improve quality, and support governed finance processes
  • Experience supporting Corporate Finance functions (e.g., general ledger, sub-ledgers, planning, reporting, treasury data)
