Description

The Feed Mill Supervisor is responsible for the daily feed mill operations including service, supervision of personnel, inventory reporting, and safety and maintenance record keeping relevant to the feed department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.) 

  • Presents a clean and professional appearance 
  • Ability to work a variable schedule to open and close the feed mill including: days of the week, shifts and hours per week (overtime as needed) 
  • Serves customers by promptly responding to customer inquiries, questions, and/or complaints in a prompt, respectful, and professional manner 
  • Effectively and professionally communicates with customers, employees, and management by verbal and written means of communication 
  • Maintains current animal feed knowledge 
  • Maintains and promotes safety awareness; follows safety policies, procedures, and reporting requirements 
  • Maintains facility and equipment cleanliness to ensure safety and required standards are met 
  • Oversees and maintains maintenance schedule of feed manufacturing equipment including checking fire extinguishers, forklifts, and other mill equipment 
  • Responsible for daily feed mill operations including managing the feed mill personnel, feed production, regulatory compliance and recordkeeping 
  • Coordinates and works cooperatively with Office Manager and division managers to help ensure company goals are met 
  • Establishes and maintains excellent rapport with customers 
  • Assist management with administrative activities to ensure safety and compliance requirements are maintained 
  • Provides input to the development of feed production and quality control standards 
  • Provides input regarding the development of feed operations plans 
  • Reports personnel changes and human resource needs to management 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Feed Mill Supervisor directly oversees feed mill operations employees. This job fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, training employees, assigning and directing work, and working with other division managers to achieve maximum utilization of employees and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes or other job related education requirements or opportunities. Must be at least 18 years of age. 


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 


COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully this position requires proficient computer operation skills (including Internet usage) and knowledge of inventory software, order processing systems, spreadsheet software, and word processing software. 


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver's license with a safe driving record (Class B CDL preferred) 

Forklift certification or the ability to obtain and maintain this certification 


REASONING ABILITY

The ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation, and labeling. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell; stand; walk; sit and climb or balance. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds. The employee may occasionally need to climb ladders (may range from 20' to 180') and stairs. This may include structural ladders as well as climbing into large vehicles. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in this work environment is loud. The employee must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.
