Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing a technical team with a focus on geothermal exploration and development, field expansions, and operational asset optimization. This management position would specifically oversee the geophysics, prospecting, and GIS programs as well as the support functions for the exploration department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Leader in safety. Maintain and implement appropriate safety systems collaborating with HSE.
  • Perform site safety inspections and maintain a safety-focused presence on appropriate projects.
  • Manage a technical team with a focus on team culture, performance, and development.
  • Manage budget on all responsible projects and operations. Develop rotating and annual budget including cost reporting.
  • Manage team resources by recruiting, training, coaching employees. Communicate job expectations and appraising performance.
  • Develop individual capabilities for team members. Perform regular check-ins and annual performance reviews.
  • Work with other Resource managers to build consistency in technical work, team culture, and department systems.
  • Develop new tools for project management with a focus on resource allocation and tracking prospect pipeline. Ensure continued relevancy.
  • Conduct project reviews and ensure technical work is world-class.
  • Ensure team tools including calculators, workflows, conceptual models, and technology are world-class.
  • Coordinate projects and resources with other Resource Management to ensure projects meet target quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Responsible for program progress, program strategies, and recommendations including reporting to upper management through appropriate and effective tools.
  • Liaise between Exploration and intra-company partners such as Business Development, Drilling, IT, Operations, and Finance
  • Lead in communication including effective and influential presentations, memos, and meetings.
  • Ensure risk, uncertainty, contingency planning, and decision trees are always included in team workflows and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain reporting structures; systems, processes, and workflows; and data systems
  • Responsible for data management and document control within the Exploration team and other departments where cross over is required.
  • Oversee new data streams; focus on quality control and availability.
  • Manage the geophysics, prospecting, & GIS programs with a focus on technical excellence, fit-for-purpose workstreams, and global efficiencies; ensure goals of team are aligned with company goals.
  • Oversee geoscience support functions including but not limited to core logging program and field work programs

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management
  • Manage project schedules and budgets with appropriate software(s)
  • Maintain appropriate documentation such as reports, memos, and presentations
  • Present or publish at professional conferences as needed
  • Maintain effective training program for team including external and internal training
  • Guide wider team(s) to correct problem solving for complex problems with high impact

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Must possess Master of Science or Engineering in a relevant subject. A Doctorate degree in a relevant subject is advantageous. A major in either Geology or Geophysics is preferred.
  • At least 10 years' experience in related work is required.
  • Experience in Project Management is preferred. Experience under the PMI project management framework is preferred, ideally holding either CAPM or PMP qualification
  • Previous experience managing a resource-extraction team is preferred with a priority for exploration
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, and team-building skills is required.
  • Highly skilled communicator and high degree of emotional intelligence
  • Consistently proactive with a high-level of initiative to independently determine work objectives for self and team
  • Strong organization and time-management skills, with preference towards qualifications in Project Management
  • Ability to perform economic calculations that factor in risk and uncertainty
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a level for accurate understanding and to efficiently perform job duties
  • Proficiency in a variety of appropriate software applications to perform job duties such as spreadsheets, databases, Microsoft office including Project, Visio, and Excel.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Proficiency in additional languages beyond English is advantageous

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • The ability to navigate and work in remote field locations and work outdoors
  • The ability to walk, hike, and work on steep, rough terrain for extended periods of time
  • The ability to safely operate 4WD light vehicles on highways and off-road
  • The ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • The ability to periodically lift 50 lbs.
  • The ability to travel approximately 30% of time
  • The ability to work in an office environment
  • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert
