ABSN PROGRAM MANAGER

Carol and Odis Peavy School of Nursing

Job Summary
The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program Director (ABSN) will be charged with oversight of program implementation and delivery for all didactic, lab and clinical experiences at distant sites working in collaboration with the PSON Division Dean and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and the nursing school as a whole. This position will serve as the academic liaison for all satellite learning centers to work to coordinate academic consistency. This position supports the Peavy School of Nursing objectives of providing consistently high quality, educational programs across all Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) sites. In addition to serving as academic liaison for existing sites, the Director will facilitate and coordinate communication for program expansion, operations and policy development, working closely with the appropriate teams.

Key Role Functions

Academics

  • Translates the curriculum delivery across settings to maintain academic integrity, program outcomes, and student success.
  • Works with distant sites to address site specific situations and concerns that relate to curriculum and teaching.
  • Interviews and recommends qualified candidates for site faculty and staff positions.
  • Works in collaboration with the School of Nursing to ensure the curriculum is consistent at all sites.
  • Assists site faculty in the understanding and interpretation of curriculum and departmental policies.
  • Evaluates lab and clinical faculty and makes recommendations concerning reappointment.
  • Supervises Directors of Nursing Academic Services on all matters concerning curriculum and teaching.
  • Interacts directly with students to elicit feedback promote effective communication with the faculty and hear the first level of student petitions and grievances.
  • Oversees adherence to admissions criteria and processes.

Communication

  • Designs and supports process improvements that enhance the quality and effectiveness of communication across ABSN sites.
  • Ensures that communication and implementation processes are in place to facilitate new site development.
  • Evaluates policy needs and communication strategies to enable effective and timely responses to communication and operational issues to ensure resolution.
  • Facilitates the development and maintenance of the relationship between the ABSN sites and the University of St. Thomas.
  • Works in conjunction with university departments to review and develop programmatic policies as needed.
  • Collaborates with the Site Directors on student orientation, course registration, career counseling, academic progress and degree completion requirements.
  • Maintains an active and effective liaison with Orbis employees at the sites.

Strategic Planning

  • Participates in Peavy School of Nursing strategic planning process and contributes to the achievement of institutional goals and objectives related to on-line and distance programs.
  • Participates in program evaluation and assists in the process of compiling program data for accreditation and other official constituents.
  • Works with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the PSON Executive Dean and the PSON Division Dean for Undergraduate Studies to formulate effective long term plans for expanding the nursing education online and to new ABSN sites.

External Representation

  • Serves as media expert as needed, attends and participates in events as needed to promote the ASBN program.
  • Provides programmatic insight to the development and implementation of external recruitment plans for students and faculty to meet program growth needs.
  • Develops external professional relationships to enhance opportunities for nursing program expansion.
  • Serves as liaison for communication between University departments and members of the Orbis and clinical site personnel.
  • Works cooperatively with all site nursing directors and nurse designees of collaborating institutions as appropriate.
  • Represents the program to internal and external constituencies.

Supervises

  • Supervises Directors of Nursing Academic Services at each site on al matters concerning curriculum and teaching.

Qualifications

  • PhD or DNP degree and a minimum of 5 years of BSN program teaching experience reflecting commitment to best practices in nursing education, or any equivalent combination of work and teaching experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position.
  • Current licensure as RN in the state of Texas
  • Ability to create education/practice partnerships, learning partnerships between teacher and student and innovative use of educational/simulation technology integral to both traditional and accelerated BSN tracks.
  • Ability to participate in further enhancing the collaborative organizational model guiding SON governance.
  • Display evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence and to the integration of a liberal arts education into the professional education of nurses at the BSN level.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a holistic nursing philosophy/framework and the capacity to work collaboratively as part of an engaged teaching team with nursing faculty, colleagues from other disciplines, and clinical partners.

Special Requirements

  • Travel requirements: Must be able and willing to travel to develop future sites and maintain communication with established sites. Estimated up to 40% of time spent traveling.
