Job description

Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

The Recruiting Manager will play a pivotal role in scaling our talent acquisition efforts to attract and onboard a dynamic and growing workforce. In this role, you will lead and mentor a team of recruiters, driving full-cycle recruiting operations while scaling our people, processes, and technology. We are looking for an empathetic, action-oriented recruiting leader who can navigate uncertainty with speed, build problem-solving teams, and partner cross-functionally to hire the talent that will drive Joby's mission forward. This role is primarily onsite in Santa Cruz and occasionally requires working at our other California locations, including San Carlos, Marina, and Concord.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of full-lifecycle recruiters to achieve hiring targets and deliver an exceptional candidate experience.
  • Design, implement, and continuously refine compliant and effective recruiting practices that scale with the business, ensuring strict adherence to all employment laws and internal policies.
  • Build strong coalitions and maintain productive relationships with hiring managers to provide strategic recruitment support and thoroughly understand evolving business needs.
  • Translate functional hiring plans into operational execution, organizing multiple teams to break down and solve complex recruiting challenges efficiently.
  • Act as a key stakeholder in scaling our talent infrastructure, providing crucial input on the evaluation, implementation, and optimization of People systems (e.g., ATS, HRIS, AI tools) and recruitment workflows.
  • Partner closely with the People Analytics team to validate data, build comprehensive reporting sheets, and utilize metrics to track recruiting effectiveness and drive strategic decisions.
Required
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, or 12+ years of relevant skilled experience, regardless of education level.
  • Several years of leadership experience overseeing high-level individual contributors or other leaders.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to confidently work with spreadsheets, validate complex datasets, and extract actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience evaluating, implementing, and optimizing People systems (e.g., ATS, CRM, and reporting tools).
  • Deep understanding of recruiting best practices, sourcing techniques, and employment law compliance.
Desired
  • Experience driving technology transformation, including the adoption of AI within talent acquisition workflows.
  • Broad understanding of the full spectrum of the People function, including compensation, internal mobility, learning and development, and performance management.
  • Experience within a diverse range of recruiting environments, ranging from fast-paced, high-volume to specialized executive searches.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., SHRM, PHR, AIRS, or similar).
