Job description

Be part of an amazing story.

Macy’s is more than just a store. We’re a story. One that’s captured the hearts and minds of America for more than 160 years. A story about innovations and traditions…about inspiring stores and irresistible products…about the excitement of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, and the wonder of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We’ve been part of memorable moments and milestones for countless customers and colleagues. Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.

Job Overview

The Senior Strategist, Content SEO defines and executes Macy's enterprise Content SEO strategy to drive organic traffic, customer engagement, and revenue growth. This leader develops the long-term vision and roadmap for high-performing editorial and evergreen content, ensuring every content investment aligns with customer needs, business priorities, and search demand.

This role owns the strategy for how content is discovered, distributed, and amplified throughout the customer journey, extending beyond content creation alone. By partnering closely with Site Merchandising, Marketing, Product, UX, Engineering, and Analytics teams, this leader ensures content reaches customers across the Macy's digital ecosystem and delivers maximum business impact.

The Senior Strategist leads a team responsible for executing the content roadmap. This leader provides strategic direction, establishes governance, influences enterprise priorities, and builds scalable processes that support long-term organic growth.

The ideal candidate is an experienced SEO strategist and people leader who influences effectively across large organizations, builds strong cross-functional partnerships, and translates customer insights into measurable business results.

What You Will Do

  • Define and execute the enterprise Content SEO strategy to drive organic traffic, customer engagement, and revenue growth.
  • Develop a multi-year content roadmap aligned with enterprise priorities, seasonal events, merchandising initiatives, customer demand, and emerging search opportunities.
  • Leverage keyword research, customer insights, competitive analysis, and search trends to identify opportunities and build topical authority across Macy's priority businesses.
  • Establish the content strategy for editorial experiences, buying guides, educational resources, trend stories, and evergreen content that supports customers throughout their shopping journey.
  • Lead the enterprise content amplification strategy by partnering with Site Merchandising to surface content across category pages, landing pages, homepage experiences, navigation, product pages, and other high-visibility customer touchpoints.
  • Partner with Marketing to integrate SEO content into campaigns and owned channels, expanding customer reach and engagement.
  • Establish content governance, quality standards, SEO best practices, and scalable workflows that drive consistency and efficiency.
  • Develop internal linking and content discoverability strategies that improve search performance and customer engagement.
  • Define KPIs and measurement frameworks to assess content performance, including traffic, rankings, engagement, conversion, revenue, and return on content investment.
  • Evaluate existing content to identify opportunities for optimization, refreshes, consolidation, expansion, and enhanced customer experiences.
  • Monitor advancements in AI-powered search, search engine algorithms, and evolving customer behaviors to continuously refine Macy's Content SEO strategy.
  • Present strategic recommendations, business cases, and performance insights to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need

Enterprise Content SEO Strategy: Deep expertise developing scalable Content SEO strategies that drive measurable growth through editorial content, buying guides, evergreen resources, seasonal experiences, and topical authority.

Content Amplification & Discoverability: Proven experience maximizing the value of content through strategic distribution across merchandising experiences, navigation, marketing channels, internal linking, and other customer touchpoints.

Strategic Leadership: Ability to define long-term vision, influence executive stakeholders, prioritize investments, and align cross-functional organizations around shared business objectives.

Cross-Functional Partnership: Exceptional collaboration skills with Product, Engineering, Site Merchandising, Marketing, UX, Creative, Analytics, and Executive Leadership.

Business & Analytical Acumen: Strong ability to translate customer and search data into strategic recommendations, define KPIs, measure business impact, and communicate results effectively.

Executive Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex SEO concepts for technical and non-technical audiences.

Program & Change Management: Experience leading enterprise initiatives across multiple stakeholders while driving adoption, accountability, and organizational alignment.

Technical SEO Knowledge: Solid understanding of technical SEO, information architecture, structured data, internal linking, content architecture, and modern search experiences.

SEO Platforms & Analytics: Experience with enterprise SEO and analytics platforms such as seoClarity, Google Search Console, Adobe Analytics, Looker Studio, Ahrefs, Sistrix, or similar technologies.

Hands on CMS Experience: Experience developing and publishing content in a CMS platform like Contently or WordPress.

  • 8+ years of experience leading SEO, Content Strategy, Organic Growth, or Digital Marketing initiatives within enterprise ecommerce or retail organizations.

  • This role involves performing essential job functions such as communication, collaboration, and use of office and computer systems.
