Job Overview
The Merchandising Planning & Inventory Management Intern participates in Macy's 8-week summer internship program, gaining exposure to analytical projects, Supply Chain initiatives, and daily department activities. Inventory Management drives inventory productivity by optimizing allocation and replenishment strategies that ensure the right product (down to the SKU level) is delivered to the right store at the right time in the right amount.
The internship provides hands-on, in-depth experience in a core retail business function. Interns contribute directly to business outcomes, participate as active team members, and share innovative ideas. They also engage with Macy's culture through interactions with senior leaders, professional development workshops, and networking opportunities. High-performing interns may be considered for full-time roles through Macy's Executive Development Program. The internship is based in Macy's New York, New York corporate offices.
What You Will Do
  • Gain professional development through hands-on learning, structured workshops, and collaborative projects.
  • Build relationships with fellow interns, business leaders, and team colleagues.
  • Develop an understanding of financial performance metrics and assortment planning
  • Execute day-to-day allocation activities, support replenishment activities
  • Conduct analysis to support inventory strategy (e.g. hold & flow, multiple shipments)
  • Utilize analysis tools to increase sales, maximize inventory productivity, and minimize markdowns Conduct competitive shopping to analyze pricing and trends.
  • Support Inventory Manager to gather key inputs for demand forecasting and inventory optimization.
  • Allocate fashion inventory, through central fulfillment based on need.
  • Operate systems within inventory guidelines to develop orders and financial planning inputs.
  • Support in-season replenishment forecasts, identify inventory risks and opportunities.
  • Support identification of opportunities for improvement in allocation and replenishment business processes.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Technical & Systems Proficiency - Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel expertise (vlookup, pivot tables, macros, advanced formulas), experienced in running and interpreting reports, streamlining processes, and utilizing system tools to improve efficiency.
Mathematical & Financial Acumen -Demonstrated strength in mathematical reasoning, with the ability to interpret financial information accurately, apply profitability metrics, and support strategic business planning through quantitative insight.
