Location: 685 Hambley Blvd (3rd floor) | Pikeville, KY
Internship Window: 7/1/26 - 8/15/26
Must be a registered UPIKE student
The Pikeville-Pike County, KY Welcome Center serves as the main visitor information hub for Pike County, promoting local attractions, events, and Appalachian heritage. The Welcome Center assists travelers with trip planning while interpreting regional history through exhibits focused on the Hatfield-McCoy feud, the Country Music Highway, and other cultural stories. Interns gain hands-on experience in tourism marketing, visitor services, content creation, and heritage interpretation.
Responsibilities and Career Competencies:
Tourism Marketing & Social Media Intern
  • Create and schedule social media content (C, T)
  • Assistwith marketing and heritage-based content creation (C, T, CTR)
  • Support basic photo, video, and graphic projects (T, CSD)

Visitor Services & Office Support Intern
  • Greet visitors and provide travel information (C, P, L)
  • Assistwith office tasks, phones, and brochure creation/organization (C, P, CSD, CT, T)

Exhibits & Heritage Content Intern
  • Help maintainand update exhibits (C, TW, CSD, CTR, T)
  • Research and write short historical and interpretive content (C, P, CSD, CTR, T)

Pay Rate: Beginning at $8.75/hour

Terms: Additional Comments: Student must work a minimum of 80 hours in the semester. Student must enroll concurrently into CVL 401: Integrated Internship Experience and successfully complete this course.
