Estate Director information

What is an estate director?

Estate Directors are professionals responsible for overseeing the management, operations, and strategic development of large properties or estates. Their duties often include supervising staff, managing budgets, ensuring maintenance and security, coordinating events, and sometimes handling legal or financial matters related to the estate. They act as the primary point of contact for the estate owner and ensure that the property runs smoothly and efficiently. Estate Directors may work for private families, luxury estates, or corporate holdings and must possess strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

How does an estate director typically collaborate with other departments to manage large properties effectively?

Estate Directors frequently work alongside teams such as maintenance, landscaping, security, and hospitality to ensure seamless operations across the property. They often serve as the main point of contact, coordinating communication and delegating tasks to ensure that the estate runs efficiently. Regular meetings and clear reporting structures help address challenges proactively, from facility issues to event planning. This collaborative approach enables the Estate Director to maintain high standards and address resident or guest needs promptly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an estate director, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Estate Director, you need expertise in property management, financial planning, and a background in real estate or hospitality, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with property management software, budgeting tools, and maintenance management systems is typical. Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are crucial for managing staff, vendors, and high-value assets. These competencies ensure the efficient operation, profitability, and long-term value of estates under your care.

What is the difference between Estate Director vs Property Manager?

AspectEstate Director

ResponsibilitiesHigh-level management, financial oversight, estate events, and long-term planning
CredentialsOften requires experience in estate management, hospitality, or related fields; certifications vary
Work EnvironmentLuxury estates, large properties, or estate management firms

The Estate Director typically manages multiple properties or a large estate, focusing on strategic and high-level operations. In contrast, a Property Manager usually handles day-to-day property maintenance and tenant relations. While both roles require management skills, the Estate Director's scope is broader, often involving financial planning and staff oversight for multiple estates.

We are seeking a Real Estate Director to lead site selection and growth strategy across the Western US.
Mission of the Position

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the real estate strategy and site selection process within the Western US.

  • 3–5 years of franchising experience a plus.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong broker networks and landlord relationships.
  • Experience working directly with franchisees or multi-unit operators.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience collaborating across teams.
  • Demonstrated success in planning, implementing, and optimizing market growth strategies.
  • Willingness to travel 50%+ of the time within the Western US.

This is a remote position.
