Key Responsibilities: Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and general repairs on City fleet vehicles and equipment Service automotive vehicles, light and medium-duty trucks, and light off-road equipment, including trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, generators, and weed eaters Conduct North Carolina vehicle inspections and support equipment readiness and reliability Diagnose basic mechanical issues and assist with repairs to maintain operational performance Follow all departmental safety procedures and safe work practices Utilize tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely and effectively Collaborate with supervisors, Master Technicians, and team members to complete assigned work Maintain accurate documentation related to maintenance and repair activities Additional Position Details: This is an entry-level position within the Equipment Services Technician career series Position requires walking, stooping, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds Work is performed in both shop and outdoor environments with exposure to dust, grease, noise, heat, cold, and inclement weather Employee must provide their own tools Must obtain the following certifications within six months of hire: North Carolina Emission/Safety Inspection License Air Conditioning Recovery Certification Position is Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Additional Benefits $2,000 annual tool allowance ASE Certification Bonus Program Potential Career Path: This position offers opportunities for growth and advancement within Equipment Services. Valid Driver's License Emission/Safety Inspection License and Air Conditioning Recovery Certification ("OR" the ability to obtain within 6 months from hire date) Class C Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications: Associate Degree in Automotive Systems Technology, Heavy Equipment & Transport Technology. 5 years of experience in Automotive/Light/Medium duty vehicles, trucks (non-diesel), and Light/Medium duty off-road equipment maintenance Emission/Safety Inspection License ASE Certifications on Automotive Series.
