Job Title: Mechanical Assembler – 2nd Shift

Job Description

This 2nd shift Mechanical Assembler role focuses on building solar panel power boxes and switchboards in the AC, DC, and wire departments. You will assemble components using hand and power tools, read prints to determine part placement, and work as part of a small, collaborative team on a non-automated assembly line. The position includes on-the-job training, with an initial training period on 1st shift before transitioning to the regular 2nd shift schedule of Monday through Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Responsibilities

• Assemble solar panel power boxes and switchboards according to prints and work instructions.
• Review daily job setups, including panel boxes, switchboards, wire, and related components prepared on shelves for assembly.
• Read and interpret prints to determine where parts and components need to be installed on the back of panels and within power boxes.
• Pull wire, spool wire, and feed wire through panels and metal plates as required for each build.
• Work on a non-automated assembly line as part of a small team, focusing on either wire spooling or mechanical assembly for the majority of the shift.
• Use hand tools, air power tools, and torque wrenches to install screws, nuts, bolts, and other fasteners.
• Strip wires and install them into metal plates and other components to complete power box assemblies.
• Meet production expectations by assembling up to 64 panels per day once fully trained and up to speed.
• Follow safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment provided on site.
• Collaborate with team members to maintain an efficient, organized, and clean work area.
• Participate in on-the-job training on 1st shift prior to transitioning to 2nd shift.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read and interpret basic prints and diagrams (including simple, instruction-style prints).
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
• Experience using basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and similar tools.
• Comfort working with power tools, including air-powered tools, under supervision and training.
• Capability to perform mechanical assembly tasks in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
• Willingness to work 2nd shift hours, Monday through Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
• Willingness to train on 1st shift (approximately 5:00 a.m. start time, Monday through Thursday) before transitioning to 2nd shift.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team on an assembly line and in wire spooling areas.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using a foot pedal crimper.
• Experience with pneumatic tools.
• Prior mechanical assembly or wiring experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Basic or entry-level knowledge of assembly processes and tools.
• Interest in learning new mechanical and electrical assembly skills through on-the-job training.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, very clean, and generally quiet manufacturing facility focused on manual assembly work. You will work primarily on 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The work involves manual labor, including lifting up to 40 pounds, working on a non-automated assembly line, and participating in wire spooling activities as part of teams of approximately 4 to 6 people, with about 20 people on the day shift and a growing 2nd shift team. The environment is casual but safety-focused: shirts with sleeves (short or long) are required, pants without holes must be worn, and steel-toe boots are mandatory. The facility is not temperature controlled but uses fans to improve comfort. Safety glasses and gloves are provided as needed. You may listen to music with one earbud while working, supporting a comfortable and focused atmosphere

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Walker, MI.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
