Job description

Job Summary

The Engineering Intern provides technical support to the engineering team within Sidump'r for the 2027 internship period. Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, this position assists in generating detailed fabrication drawings, revising existing model files, and supporting product design improvements. The intern will gain hands-on experience in trailer and equipment manufacturing while ensuring alignment with organizational safety, quality, and production standards.

Primary Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Design & Drafting Support

    • Utilize SolidWorks to create, update, and revise 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing/assembly drawings.

    • Generate detailed drafting documentation, including bill of materials (BOMs), welding annotations, and dimensional callouts for production lines.

    • Maintain drawing standards and ensure high accuracy in engineering documentation.

  2. Operations & Administrative Assistance

    • Assist engineers in investigating component fits, manufacturing tolerances, and shop-floor drawing inquiries.

    • Archive, organize, and manage CAD files and engineering change notices (ECNs) within the product data management system.

    • Communicate with manufacturing and shop-floor personnel to gather feedback on drawing clarity and practical assembly execution.

  3. Mission, Policy, and Planning

    • Align daily work with company values, quality standards, and continuous improvement goals.

    • Participate in team reviews, project update meetings, and safety orientations.

    • Keep engineering leadership informed of project progress, challenges, and completion timelines.

  4. Safety and Compliance

    • Follow all standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and workplace policies while in office and plant environments.

    • Assist in reviewing designs to support product safety, structural integrity, and manufacturing compliance.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Position operates primarily in an office setting with regular movement through production and manufacturing shop environments.

  • Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, view computer screens, and operate workstation CAD tools.

  • Must be comfortable wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when walking manufacturing areas.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), or a related technical field.

  • Prior hands-on experience or demonstrated coursework proficient in SolidWorks is preferred.

  • Strong passion for mechanical drafting, technical drawing, and detailing.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, standard manufacturing symbols, and geometric dimensioning.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
