Overview

THE ROLE 

The Manufacturing/Engineer Intern supports manufacturing engineering activities focused on improving safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency within plant operations. This role provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes, equipment, and continuous improvement initiatives in a commercial vehicle production environment.

The intern will work closely with manufacturing engineers, operations teams, and cross-functional partners to support projects related to process improvement, equipment implementation, and operational performance.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

  • Assist with manufacturing process improvements and efficiency initiatives.
  • Support equipment installation, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Participate in safety, quality, and productivity improvement projects.
  • Collect and analyze production data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with development of standard work, process documentation, and work instructions.
  • Support plant layout, workflow optimization, and material flow improvements.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams with operations and engineering.
  • Assist with cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform time studies or basic process observations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS) 

  • Education: Pursuing a degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering 

  • Skills:   

  • Ability to read manufacturing prints. 

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes. 

  • Computer skills including MS Office and Solidworks. 

  • Analytical analysis and problem-solving skills. 

  • Strong communication and organizational skills 

  • Problem Solving: Uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; probes all fruitful sources for answers; can see hidden problems; is excellent at honest analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the first answers.  

  • Travel: None
