Overview:
Global Power Components is a privately held, growing manufacturer of UL heavy gauge steel fuel tanks, trailers, large generator enclosures, and modular metal enclosures for housing fully-equipped electrical distribution and control equipment. We have moved operations into a newly renovated 300,000 sq. foot facility that will foster our continued growth as we continue to be recognized as the undisputed leaders in our industry. As a result of our expansion, we are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer Manager to join our growing team. We are currently looking for a leader who wants to make a difference and who wishes to be part of our dynamic organization. Working within a fast-paced environment, the Mechanical Engineering Manager will oversee a team of engineers tasked with the design, development, and support of mechanical systems, tanks, and enclosures. This position requires close collaboration with other departments to ensure quality, on-time project execution, and continuous improvement in engineering and manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of mechanical engineers through all phases of product development, from concept through production.
  • Evaluate talent depth chart, scalability of group, and prepare for future organizational growth.
  • Oversee mechanical design activities including CAD, SolidWorks, DriveWorks, PDM, modeling, prototyping, testing, and validation.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and customer specifications.
  • Manage engineering schedules, resource planning, and task assignments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Management to align on requirements and deliverables.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and standards.
  • Support root cause analysis and resolution of product issues during development and in the field.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and tools to enhance product capabilities and team efficiency. Maximize our use of automation in design.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Maintain ETO agility, while developing stringent processes for continuous/ repetitive programs.
  • Invest in relationships/ processes across cohort engineering groups.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM, and ERP system experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in sheet-metal and weldment design.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple projects, and set clear priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to resolving technical and production challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be willing to collaborate, define the undefined, and effectively manage change.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Project Management software, ERP software systems.
  • Communicate through all mediums; In-person, chat, email, phone, written.
  • Be reliable, independent, and professional. Follow company safety policies.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of this job; Walking, climbing ladders, dexterity to use tools.
  • Must have reliable transportation and drive legally between manufacturing locations. (all in greater Milwaukee area).
  • Significant experience with metal fabrication and manufacturing; Laser, plasma, turret, brake press, folding machines, welding, paint/coatings, assembly.
