Job description

Description Summary Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide a comprehensive educational instructional program committed to quality teaching and successful student achievement. Employees in this classification perform both instructional and administrative work. Position is responsible for teaching classes and instructing students; preparing lesson plans; preparing tests; grading papers; counseling and advising students; building and managing program schedules; utilizing LMS system to post online course content and maintain grades; and assisting with necessary paperwork for accreditation and institutional purposes.

Performs related work as required. Knowledge & Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coordinates with the Dean/Program Director on course setups and operations of all certificate and curriculum EMT courses. Oversee and manage daily operations of all EMT courses, to include creating schedules, syllabuses, and daily lesson plans to ensure each course meets NC OEMS, NC Community College System & National Education Standards. Teaches EMS courses and instructs students using a variety of instruction modalities.

Prepare tests, class projects and case studies; grades papers; average grades, prepares grade reports, and coordinates make-up tests through LMS System and EMS Testing. Assists with the EMS Simulation Program, including FAAC Driving Simulators. Assists with scheduling and teaching courses offered by the AHA Training Center & Stop-The-Bleed Program as needed.

Schedules adjunct instructors using Microsoft Teams (Shifts) for each semester in collaboration with the Dean/Program Director. Assists the Dean/Program Director in advising future students and completes course orientations as necessary. Assists adjunct instructors with course planning, development and technical issues with LMS system and educational resources, when requested.

Is familiar with the CoAEMSP accreditation process and necessary recordkeeping. Maintains appropriate certifications, credentials, and licenses. Maintains a strong working relationship with local and state Fire, EMS & Law Enforcement agencies for recruiting purposes.

Maintain necessary North Carolina Office of EMS and NC Community College System records. Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom. Maintains personal certifications and stays abreast of professional advancements.

Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum & Preferred Qualifications Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education Minimum: Associate's degree with course work emphasis in Emergency Medical Services or a related field. Must currently hold North Carolina Level I Instructor Certification. Experience Minimum: Three to five years' experience in teaching, administrative work, or other EMS related work.

Experience utilizing LMS platform such as Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, etc. Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree with course work emphasis in emergency medical services or a related field. North Carolina Level II Instructor Certification.

Preferred Experience: Experience with Platinum Planner, EMS Testing, and Enrollware software is desired. Additional Information Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office & Blackboard.
