Job description

Overview
FMI, a leading management consulting and investment banking firm specializing in the built environment, is seeking a People Operations Manager to join its People & Culture team. This role plays a critical part in supporting FMI's continued growth by contributing to key people operations processes and serving as a trusted resource for managers and employees. The ideal candidate blends operational excellence with sound judgment and brings a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to a fast-paced, evolving environment.
The People Operations Manager will lead or collaborate across multiple areas of People & Culture, including talent assessment, role competency and job description development, onboarding and the new hire experience, employee relations and manager support, employee separations, and administration of key HR systems and programs. This individual will partner closely with business leaders and the broader People & Culture team to ensure consistent, high-quality execution and practical, business-focused people solutions.
This full-time opportunity is based in our corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with three days per week in the office and two days working remotely. Travel may be required periodically to FMI's other office locations in Denver, Houston and Tampa.
All applicants for employment must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.
Responsibilities
  • Own and manage FMI's talent assessment process end-to-end, including timelines, communications, training, and execution, in collaboration with the Chief People Officer and Director of Professional Development.
  • Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of role competencies and job descriptions, partnering with business leaders to ensure alignment with business needs and support talent acquisition, performance management, employee development, and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Partner with business units to support execution of onboarding programs, ensuring a consistent and positive new hire experience and that new hires receive the guidance, resources, and check-ins they need from day one through their first 90 days.
  • Lead the exit interview process, ensuring consistent data collection and analysis, and partner with the Chief People Officer to identify exit and engagement trends and actionable insights for business leaders.
  • Partner with the Chief People Officer to provide employee relations support, serving as a trusted resource to managers on performance management, coaching, feedback delivery, and conflict resolution while supporting complex, sensitive, or high-risk employee relations matters.
  • Manage the ADA accommodation process by coordinating the interactive process, evaluating employee accommodation requests, and collaborating with the Chief People Officer on complex situations; partner with the HR Coordinator when requests overlap with FMLA or other leave matters.
  • Serve as one of the administrators for FMI's HRIS, supporting workflows, data integrity, permissions, reporting capabilities, and accurate people data.
  • Support culture and engagement initiatives and contribute to key HR projects that enhance the employee experience.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and the Chief People Officer on workforce planning insights and organizational needs.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and communication of HR policies and programs and support audits, reporting, and documentation as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and collaborate with the broader People & Culture team to maintain alignment across talent, development, and operations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • 6-10 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including demonstrated success designing and implementing talent assessment and onboarding programs, as well as managing employee relations matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage HR processes and programs.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including EEO, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and other applicable employment regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence, build trust, and establish credibility with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Sound judgment and discretion, with the ability to navigate sensitive employee and business matters while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, drive process improvements, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Business acumen and professional presence, with the ability to understand business priorities, adapt to a professional services environment, and provide practical, business-focused people solutions.
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to solve complex problems, interpret data, and make informed, data-driven recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting or implementing an HRIS system.
  • Experience in a professional services or consulting environment.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
