Lead Electrical Control Panel Designer/Drafter

Experience Level: Minimum 1 Year Experience using AutoCAD Electrical / Electrical Panel Design
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Travel: Less than 5%


Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Electrical Drafter/Designer to support the design and development of industrial automation and control systems. This role focuses on creating electrical drawings and panel designs for automated equipment and processes using AutoCAD Electrical.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional with some experience who is eager to grow in controls engineering, panel design, and industrial automation systems.


Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with engineers to develop electrical designs for industrial control systems and automated equipment
  • Create and modify detailed electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
  • Design control panels including layout, component selection, and wiring design
  • Produce complete drawing packages, including:
    • Bills of Materials (BOM)
    • Cable and interconnect lists
    • Terminal strip layouts and wiring diagrams
  • Ensure designs align with industrial automation standards and best practices
  • Assist with control panel build and wiring, supporting shop activities as needed
  • Revise drawings based on engineering feedback, redlines, and field changes
  • Maintain organized documentation for projects and support standardization efforts

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in electrical drafting/design, preferably in industrial or controls environments
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical (required)
  • Basic understanding of industrial control panels and panel design
  • Ability to develop and interpret electrical schematics
  • Familiarity with common automation components (relays, PLCs, power supplies, terminal blocks, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Team-oriented with good communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to industrial automation systems or controls engineering
  • Hands-on experience with control panel assembly and wiring
  • Familiarity with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and I/O systems
  • Technical schooling or certification in electrical or automation-related field
