Job Overview: First established in 1901, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a 665-bed quaternary care, teaching hospital that provides comprehensive health care for the region. Staffed with more than 800 physicians, 3200 employees, and 150 volunteers, our hospital is ready to provide you and your family with the quality care you need.

The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for designing, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for all levels of professional, technical, and ancillary staff in a variety of critical care areas and hospital departments consistent with the hospital’s mission, vision, philosophy, and core values. Programs include the orientation of new employees, in-service education relevant to the hospital environment, and continuing education offerings which are expected to maintain and/or improve competency and work performance. At Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, we are committed to quality and excellence in patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Nursing required. MSN or MSN—Nursing Education preferred. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the specialty required.
  • Experience in Education or Staff Development highly preferred. 
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required. 
  • Certification in Nursing Professional Development preferred.
  • Completion of clinical experience in an NLN accredited school preferred.
  • Advanced certifications preferred. 

Certifications and Licenses:

  • American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Certification are required. 
  • An active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsement is required. 

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-time: 37.5 Hours Per Week
  • Flexible options to align with Orientation Needs

Essential Functions:

  • The Nurse Educator is a registered professional nurse who has expertise in the clinical setting and nursing professional development and education. Experience for this role includes an in-depth understanding and management of a wide scope of patients.  
  • The Nurse Educator must have an in-depth understanding of the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Practice and Nursing Standards. 
  • She/he is a member of the Nursing Leadership team and supports the Organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values, and actively participates in the shared governance process.
  • She/he is responsible and accountable for the development and application of the Standards of Care and policies and procedures of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center—RWJBH, in an effort to enhance the quality of care provided to patients and families.
  • The primary function is that of an educator, practitioner, consultant and change agent.  Assesses data relevant to the learner’s progress, and interprets the appropriate information necessary to develop group and individual learning plans.
  • The Ancillary Nurse Educator is a clinical expert with abilities to foster the clinical development of the staff that she/he guides. This individual will be responsible to assess the educational needs of the staff on an on-going basis and to serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, fellow educators, management, allied professional employees and other healthcare providers. 
  • In addition to the aforementioned skills, the Nurse Educator must possess clinical experience, training, and education aligned with their specialty practice area of focus.
  • The Nurse Educator will assist in the onboarding, orientation and clinical practice evaluation of Ancillary Staff
  • The Nurse Educator will participate in the Nurse Residency Program.  
  • The Nurse Educator may assist in other departments as clinically requested by nursing leadership. Demonstrated teaching ability is required for the position.
