Job description

General Summary The Educator works in the Recreation Department and throughout EBR Parish at BREC parks and at community events. This requires scheduling educational and recreational programs, supervising staff and volunteers, leading and instructing programs, researching and developing curriculum and schedules, teaching and leading group activities, and composing routine correspondence. Work involves interaction with other employees, volunteers, community leaders, and the general public.

Requirements and Job Specifications Education Required: Successful completion of two (2) or more years at an accredited 4 year college or university Preferred: Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university Area of Study: Rec Admin, Therapeutic Recreation, Sports Admin, Outdoor Programming, Education, or related field Preferred: Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Services, Education or related field Certification(s) Required: First Aid & CPR/AED within 30 days of hire Preferred: CPR and First Aid, CTRS or ADC for Therapeutic Recreation License(s) Required: Valid LA driver's license. Will obtain Class D chauffeur's license within 60 days of employment Preferred: Class D Chauffeur's license Years Relevant Work Experience: Two (2) years supervisory or recreation programming experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred: Three (3) or more years supervisory and recreational programming experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience working with youth Leadership skills, including ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm to participants Computer and general office skills Written & oral communication skills for public programming Interpersonal/public relations skills Ability to follow instructions Functions and Duties Essential Functions and Duties: Researches, schedules and implements recreation programs Assists with the direct supervision of equipment, vehicle and the direct the work of staff and volunteers Prepares and disseminates correspondence about programs to area schools, community organizations, and BREC parks including programs offered and confirmations Assists in development, installation, and marketing items and equipment Organize and teach program specific skills (new and existing) to participants Research, create, and execute lesson plans for students Assist and lead participants in various activities and events Lead and instruct workout classes and activities Assist and fulfill Summer Camp plans as needed Assist in the upkeep of all facilities and equipment Other duties: Research, schedules and implements Adaptive programs with developmental and intellectual disabilities Assisting individuals in programs and events of all ages and abilities to include those with intellectual disabilities Assist with the management of the Sensory Tent at large community events Complete individual assessments Adapting activities for participants and assisting individuals with transfer and personal care of participants Supplemental Information Hours Worked: Full-time position; scheduled within framework of 8 hours per day, 5 days a week, may vary according to special events; frequent weekends, evening and holiday work; lunch break daily; overtime as required.
