Job description

Our Accountant provides support to management by tracking and analyzing financial activities, that includes: expenses, revenues, costs, and statistical data, to inform decision-making. This Accountant is involved in generating reports and conducting cost to budget analysis under supervision of a senior team member or a manager. They serve as a liaison between financial operations and various departments within the company, ensuring accurate recording of costs across lines of business. This Accountant may assist in the preparation of the annual budget, preparing detailed billing to government and commercial customers, and supporting financial planning efforts to optimize business performance.
Salary Range
$55,000 ~ $65,000

The base pay offered for this position may vary within the posted range based on your job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may fall outside of this range.
Hybrid Work LocationOur first consideration will be to have this new employee live in the Greater Madison, WI area to take advantage of Hybrid work and collaboration. Employees living within 45 miles of WPS Headquarters (1717 W. Broadway in Madison, WI) will be expected to be able to work in the office 2 days a week.
Secondary priority will be given to remote candidates in WI, IL, MN, or IA.
**If not regionally local to Madison, WI, occasional travel to our WPS Headquarters will be expected.

  • Enjoy preparing general ledger entries from various sources, ensuring accurate record-keeping and adherence to internal controls to maintain financial security, according to standard operating procedures.
  • Can reconcile assigned accounts, escalating and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner, and performing additional analysis as necessary.
  • Want to prepare cost allocations in compliance with WPS disclosed practices on a monthly basis.
  • Can utilize data extraction tools to pull relevant information from various sources into financial reporting templates ensuring the accuracy and integrity of source data.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, financial reporting, expense and revenue management.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to ask clear, targeted questions to obtain the necessary information for task completion.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and exposure to technology applications in Finance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 or more years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field - this could include internships.
  • Experience with Deltek accounting software.
