What does a division order analyst do?

A division order analyst works for a petroleum company and oversees company records. As a division order analyst, you establish, prepare, review, approve, and maintain documents regarding production and land ownership for royalty owners. You generally work as a part of the land department at an oil company. Although your primary responsibilities involve accurate recordkeeping, you may perform other duties related to land ownership and royalty payments as well. You also work with technology to help keep records organized, secure, and easy to access.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a division order analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Division Order Analyst, you need a strong understanding of land titles, mineral ownership, and oil and gas lease agreements, often supported by a degree in energy management, business, or a related field. Familiarity with land management software (such as Quorum or WolfePak), databases, and proficiency in Excel are typically required. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for accurately determining ownership interests, ensuring proper revenue distribution, and minimizing legal and financial risks for oil and gas companies.

What are some common challenges division order analysts face when managing mineral and royalty interests?

Division Order Analysts often encounter challenges such as interpreting complex title documents, reconciling ownership discrepancies, and ensuring accurate distribution of revenue among multiple stakeholders. They must also stay updated on changing regulations and company policies that impact ownership calculations. Effective communication with landowners, legal teams, and internal departments is essential to resolve issues quickly and avoid delays in payment processes.

What is the difference between Division Order Analyst vs Landman?

Position Description The City of Fresno is currently seeking energetic, hardworking individuals to join our team and achieve our mission of Building a Better Fresno. The Division Manager directs all operational activities for their assigned division(s). The position reports to a Department Director or Assistant Director and serves as a vital source of professional support for departmental leadership.

With significant independent judgment, the manager is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of programs and staff. This includes planning the work of Program Managers, developing strategic goals, preparing budgets, and representing the department at key meetings. For the Finance Department assignment, the Division Manager will oversee advanced accounting operations, ensure adherence to governmental accounting standards, supervise audit preparation and response activities, manage internal control functions, and direct all phases of financial reporting.

The role will also provide strategic leadership in addressing ongoing challenges within the City's Tyler Munis financial system. Responsibilities include guiding staff through system corrections, implementing process improvements, and collaborating with IT and the software vendor to resolve persistent issues. The ideal candidate for the Finance Department is a seasoned municipal finance professional with at least a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Public Administration.

A Master's degree (MBA or MPA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is strongly preferred. This individual will have a minimum of five years of local government finance experience, including at least three years in a supervisory or management role. The candidate should demonstrate deep, hands-on expertise in the Finance Department's core functions, including central accounting operations, accounts payable, fixed asset management, enterprise and general accounting, and preparation of the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and State Controller's Report.

Experience in investment portfolio management, daily cash management, debt administration, and bank reconciliations is highly desirable. The ideal candidate has a proven ability to direct comprehensive financial activities while developing strategies to strengthen business assets, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiency. For the assignment in the Planning and Development Department, the Division Manager is responsible for administrative functions associated with Development Services, which is composed of Planning, Building & Safety, and Historic Preservation divisions.

It manages customer service at the Planning counter, including staff that assists walk-in customers, provides phone support, and schedules inspections. It is responsible for records retention of all documents associated with development including building permits, certificates of occupancy, planning entitlements, and historic resource designations; Public Records Act (PRA) requests; clerical support for various boards and commissions; and additional staff support services. The Division Manager will be responsible for data tracking and reporting; oversight of fixes and enhancements to the Accela permitting software; and supervision of the department's GIS and Graphics functions.

The incumbent works closely with staff and subject matter experts in each division, coordinating work assignments and supporting customer communication. The ideal candidate has a strong background in customer service and performance management, and an ability to manage a suite of diverse administrative tasks. They will supervise Management Analysts, Administrative Clerks, Records Clerks, GIS Technicians, and Graphics Technicians.

Two vacancies are currently available in the Finance Department and the Planning and Development Department. Because the Division Manager classification is used across multiple departments, the City of Fresno may also use applications from this recruitment to fill future vacancies. This is an unclassified position in which the incumbent serves at the will of the Department Director.

THE REQUIREMENTS Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for further consideration: Bachelor's Degree in a field directly related to technical discipline and four years of directly related experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid California driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
