As Director of Portfolio Operations, you will lead the full spectrum of base support services across one or more military installations, ensuring that every dining facility, lodging operation, retail outlet, and support service runs with the precision and reliability our military partners depend on.
This is a senior, high-visibility role at the intersection of operational leadership and national service. You will be the primary face of Aramark to base commanders and government contracting officers, a trusted partner who understands both the business and the mission.
Job Responsibilities
Lead Operations Across the Portfolio
Oversee day-to-day performance of dining facilities, catering, facilities management, retail, and workplace support services
Direct and mentor General Managers and site leadership teams to achieve consistent operational excellence
Drive standardized procedures, quality standards, and customer satisfaction across all location
Monitor KPIs and implement corrective action plans with urgency and precision
Own the Military Partnership
Serve as the primary operational liaison between Aramark Salute and military leadership, contracting officers, and government representatives
Participate in command briefings, business reviews, and base working groups
Support surge operations, contingency planning, and mission-critical requirements, including during non-standard hours
Proactively identify emerging base requirements and position Aramark Salute as a solutions-oriented partner
Manage Financial Performance
Hold full P and L accountability for the portfolio, including revenue, labor, operating expenses, and profitability
Develop and manage annual operating budgets; review financial reports and forecasts regularly
Identify cost reduction opportunities without compromising contract performance or service quality
Maintain controls across purchasing, inventory, and resource allocation
Build and Develop Talent
Recruit, develop, and retain strong leaders and frontline employees across the portfolio
Coach managers on leadership effectiveness, workforce planning, and employee relations
Lead performance reviews and succession planning; foster a culture of recognition and accountability
Ensure Compliance and Mission Readiness
Maintain full compliance with all contract requirements, Department of Defense regulations, base directives, food safety standards, and OSHA requirements
Keep operations inspection-ready at all times; implement corrective actions promptly
Uphold security protocols, access requirements, and government property accountability
Support emergency preparedness and business continuity planning
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality, Operations Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7 to 10 years of progressive operational leadership experience, with at least 5 years managing multi-site or multi-functional operations
  • Proven P and L accountability and financial management experience
  • Strong client-facing skills; comfortable engaging senior leaders and government officials
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to military bases and government facilities
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50%+ across assigned installations

Preferred
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, federal government, or military base contracts
  • Background in food service, facilities management, hospitality, or integrated base support services
  • Advanced degree in Business, Public Administration, or Hospitality
  • PMP, CFM, or similar professional certification
  • Experience in contingency operations or mission-critical environments
