Position Summary

Seeking a mission-driven Director of Data & Technology to provide strategic, operational, and hands-on leadership across the organization’s technology, data, analytics, and operational systems environment.

This role is responsible for modernizing and stabilizing enterprise technology and data operations while rebuilding trust, improving collaboration, strengthening communication, and aligning technology initiatives with the Union’s mission, member needs, and long-term organizational strategy.

The Director will lead technology operations, data governance, analytics modernization, enterprise applications, vendor relationships, and cross-functional technology initiatives supporting ’s staff, members, campaigns, leadership teams, and operational departments.

The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative and emotionally intelligent leader who can balance strategic vision with operational execution. This individual must be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, mission-driven, politically aware, and highly relationship-oriented environment while leading organizational modernization initiatives that directly support ’s mission and member community.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Organizational Alignment
• Provide strategic and operational leadership for ’s Data & Technology organization.
• Build strong relationships across departments and establish IT as a trusted business partner.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, respectful, and solutions-oriented team culture.
• Lead, mentor, and develop IT and data staff while improving morale, accountability, and organizational trust.
• Establish clear operational priorities, delivery expectations, communication standards, and accountability frameworks.
• Translate technology initiatives into business value and operational impact for leadership and staff.
• Support ’s mission, member advocacy initiatives, and organizational values through technology and data strategy.

Data Strategy, Governance & Analytics
• Lead enterprise data governance, reporting modernization, and analytics strategy initiatives.
• Complete and optimize the organization’s Snowflake modernization and data consolidation initiatives.
• Improve data quality, reconciliation processes, metadata visibility, and operational reporting capabilities.
• Establish scalable reporting frameworks and improve self-service reporting capabilities across departments.
• Develop and maintain a “single source of truth” strategy for enterprise reporting and operational data.
• Ensure data security, privacy, governance, and access controls align with organizational and compliance requirements.
• Partner with leadership teams to improve operational visibility and decision-making through data-informed insights.

Technology Operations & Delivery
• Oversee enterprise applications, infrastructure, helpdesk operations, integrations, reporting systems, and operational technology services.
• Improve operational delivery maturity, project execution discipline, and cross-functional coordination.
• Lead vendor and consultant management efforts, ensuring accountability, transparency, and cost effectiveness.
• Reduce operational reactivity by implementing stronger prioritization, planning, communication, and governance frameworks.
• Establish stronger documentation standards, change management processes, and operational workflows.
• Support business continuity, disaster recovery, cybersecurity, and operational resiliency initiatives.
• Drive operational efficiencies and modernization initiatives while balancing stability, scalability, and user adoption.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Communication
• Partner closely with leadership, operations, organizing, finance, field teams, and other stakeholders to align technology investments with organizational goals.
• Build strong working relationships across diverse stakeholder groups and organizational subcultures.
• Communicate complex technical concepts in clear, accessible business language.
• Facilitate productive conversations across technical and non-technical teams while maintaining transparency and trust.
• Maintain consistent communication regarding priorities, project status, risks, timelines, and operational outcomes.

Required Qualifications
• 7+ years of progressive leadership experience across technology, data, analytics, or enterprise systems environments.
• Proven experience leading cross-functional technology or data teams within complex operational organizations.
• Strong understanding of enterprise data governance, reporting ecosystems, analytics platforms, and operational data workflows.
• Experience leading organizational modernization, migration, or enterprise transformation initiatives.
• Strong project and program management experience with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities.
• Experience building collaborative relationships across executive leadership, operational teams, and technical staff.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, mission-driven, and highly collaborative environments.
• Strong emotional intelligence, organizational awareness, and conflict management capabilities.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution and hands-on leadership.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working within labor unions, nonprofit organizations, advocacy organizations, healthcare organizations, or mission-driven environments.
• Experience supporting decentralized or politically complex organizations.
• Experience with Snowflake, Power BI, Salesforce, enterprise reporting platforms, and data modernization initiatives.
• Experience implementing data governance frameworks and self-service analytics capabilities.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity, disaster recovery, compliance, and operational resiliency frameworks.
• Experience supporting organizational change management and culture transformation initiatives.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and iterative operational improvement frameworks.
