Job description

The Director, Comparative Rater Strategy & Analytics is responsible for leading comparative rater strategy and related competitive intelligence gathering, and analytics for Plymouth Rock's Partners distribution channel.
This role leads comparative rater strategy, market intelligence, and business analytics into strategic assets that drive profitable growth, improve competitive positioning, and support data-driven decision making across Plymouth Rock's distribution organization. The Director serves as the primary business leader responsible for understanding how Plymouth Rock competes, performs, and grows across agency, partnership, and comparative rater distribution channels.
The position will partner closely with Product Management, Distribution, Marketing, IT, Operations, Underwriting, and Financial Planning to identify opportunities that improve growth, retention, profitability, agency productivity, and customer acquisition effectiveness.
This is a working management position requiring both strong leadership capabilities and the ability to personally conduct analyses, develop recommendations, and influence business decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Comparative Rater Strategy & Optimization
  • Develop and execute Plymouth Rock's comparative rater strategy, including platform optimization, vendor management, implementation governance, and long-term roadmap planning.
  • Serve as the primary relationship owner with comparative rater vendors, driving improvements in quote performance, agent experience, carrier visibility, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with Product, Underwriting, and IT teams to ensure product, rate, underwriting, and filing changes are accurately implemented across comparative rating platforms.
  • Lead optimization of comparative rater workflows, including eligibility rules, company-specific questions, defaults, quote return performance, carrier visibility logic, and quality assurance processes.
  • Monitor comparative rater performance and develop recommendations to improve agency adoption, quoting efficiency, and policy conversion.
Competitive Intelligence & Market Strategy
  • Lead Plymouth Rock's competitive intelligence efforts within the Partners distribution channel by monitoring pricing position, product competitiveness, quoting performance, market trends, and competitor activity. Collaborate with stakeholders in Product Management and IT to drive improvements in these results.
  • Develop competitive intelligence frameworks, dashboards, and executive reporting that benchmark Plymouth Rock's performance and identify opportunities to improve market share, profitability, and growth.
  • Analyze competitive positioning by state, product, agency segment, and distribution channel and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Monitor comparative rating technology, insurtech innovation, and emerging market trends while supporting Product and Distribution leadership in evaluating opportunities and threats.
Distribution Analytics & Business Performance
  • Deliver performance measurement, business intelligence, and decision support across partnership, agency, and comparative rater distribution channels.
  • Develop executive dashboards, KPI frameworks, and management reporting that measure growth, retention, profitability, agency productivity, customer acquisition effectiveness, and overall distribution performance.
  • Partner with Finance to optimize agency economics, compensation effectiveness, producer productivity, customer lifetime value, and channel profitability to support investment decisions and resource allocation.
  • Partner with Distribution, Product, and Marketing leadership to identify, prioritize, and execute initiatives that increase quote volume, policy growth, partner productivity, and distribution profitability.
  • Support business development efforts through partner evaluations, business case development, growth opportunity analysis, and strategic planning.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy, analytical consistency, data governance, and effective use of data across the organization.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for comparative rater optimization, competitive intelligence, reporting, analytics, and business performance insights.
  • Establish priorities, allocate resources, and manage team workloads to support strategic business objectives.
  • Build strong partnerships across Product, Distribution, Marketing, Finance, IT, Operations, Underwriting, and Financial Planning teams.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and strategic initiatives to executive leadership and translate complex analytical findings into actionable business decisions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in insurance analytics, competitive intelligence, distribution strategy, product management, pricing, business intelligence, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing analytical, strategic, or business performance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of personal lines insurance, agency distribution models, customer acquisition strategies, and channel economics.
  • Experience with comparative rating platforms such as Vertafore, EZLynx, PL Rating, EPIC, Bolt, or similar technologies preferred.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency and experience working with large-scale data environments.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills utilizing Excel, Tableau, Power BI, SAS, Python, R, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence product, pricing, underwriting, marketing, and distribution strategies through analytical insights and business recommendations.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.

SALARY RANGE

The pay range for this position is $186,500 to $247,000 annually. Actual compensation will vary based on multiple factors, including employee knowledge and experience, role scope, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
