Position Summary:
The Store Director is accountable for driving the achievement of impactful results that embody integrity, nurture trust, and stay true to the mission, vision, and values of our cooperative. This senior leadership role oversees the daily operations, strategic planning, and overall performance of the store to ensure it meets key goals, balancing care and accountability, fostering a supportive and high-performing environment. The Store Director actively coaches and develops team members, ensuring continuous opportunities for growth and skill development. They also play a pivotal role in fostering positive community relationships, demonstrating a commitment to both the well-being of the community and the success of the store.
As Rivers Co-op Markets brings together the strengths of two cooperatives, the Store Director plays a critical role in leading through change, building team engagement, and ensuring employees and member owners have a positive experience. Ideal candidates have a proven track record of improving standards and efficiencies that build toward operational excellence, while also maintaining a firm understanding of store financials.
This position is also responsible for collaborating with Rivers Cooperative Markets administrative functions (HR, Finance, Marketing, Purchasing, IT) to ensure excellent communications and alignment between their store and administration.
Qualifications:
  • Customer Service: Proven ability to ensure exceptional customer service, conflict resolution and experiences across a store or multiple departments; ability to recommend and implement customer-centric initiatives or strategies based on feedback and trends to enhance the customer experience across a store or multiple departments
  • Retail Experience: Experience in a fast-paced grocery retail setting including perishable and non-perishable inventory management as well as tracking, improving, and managing product margins across multiple departments
  • Team Leadership: Supervisory experience including hiring, training, development, performance management, coaching, and team building for a manager group; skilled at creating a culture of inclusivity, teamwork, and collaboration; a track record of achieving excellent results through the effective development of high performing leadership teams
  • Multi-Department Oversight: Demonstrated ability to provide effective oversight and leadership for a store, departments, or units; proven ability to allocate resources and set priorities for multiple leadership positions and departments; utilizes and develops processes for cross department productivity, quality, and service
  • Communication: Proven exceptional ability in expressing self, actively listening, self-awareness, empathy, and flexible communication for effective leadership and professionalism in all interactions, ability to clearly convey policies, priorities, vision, store, and organizational goals in a manner that builds cohesiveness and rapport; ability to foster open communication, empower, and motivate leadership team to work towards achieving store shared goals; ability to remain calm, professional, and optimistic during challenging situations and effectively resolve conflicts in a constructive and positive manner

Schedule: Current shifts available may vary and can include day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours to meet department needs. Flexibility required to meet business needs.

Physical and Working Requirements:
The position involves frequent stationary tasks, along with regular movement within the grocery, front end, deli, and storage areas. Frequent positioning is required to access both low and high shelving, equipment, and products. The job also entails the frequent movement of containers weighing up to 60 lbs. Store Directors frequently handle grocery, produce, and deli items and may occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to reach high shelving. Store Directors will utilize various equipment including but not limited to a POS system, knives, pallet jack, a baler, computers, and printers. This role requires exchanging accurate information in person, over the phone, and through email and other written communication. Store Directors will occasionally work in a walk-in cooler and be exposed to sanitizer, cleaning products, and loud noises, and may be designated as staff to be contacted in emergency situations. Additionally, Store Directors must have the ability to travel between locations and must meet the Rivers Cooperative Markets' safe driver requirements.
