Job description

Summary / Position Purpose

The Director of Digital Product Content & Merchandising is responsible for leading the digital product experience across ecommerce channels by ensuring products are discoverable, compelling, conversion-optimized, and customer-ready. This role oversees digital product content strategy, merchandising optimization, onsite discoverability, and performance insights to drive traffic, engagement, conversion, and revenue growth. 

This leader serves as the strategic bridge between Ecommerce, Merchandising, Product Content, Marketing, Analytics, UX, and supplier partners to ensure digital product experiences align with customer expectations and business objectives. 

While operational product data is managed separately, this role owns the customer-facing digital product experience — ensuring digital content is complete, enriched, optimized, and aligned to how customers search, shop, compare, and purchase online. 

Essential Duties, Functions and/or Responsibilities

Digital Product Content Strategy & Governance 

  • Define and evolve digital product content standards across categories to improve discoverability, conversion, and customer confidence  
  • Ensure digital product content is complete, accurate, enriched, and optimized prior to product launch  
  • Establish category-specific attribute standards, taxonomy strategies, and content requirements that support navigation, filtering, SEO, and AI-driven discovery  
  • Own digital content readiness standards including imagery, enhanced content, specifications, feature/benefit messaging, comparison content, videos, and supporting assets  
  • Develop scalable supplier onboarding and digital content acquisition processes to improve efficiency and speed-to-market  
  • Partner with suppliers and merchants to prioritize product content enhancements based on customer needs and business impact  
  • Develop governance processes and scorecards to measure content quality, completeness, and consistency  
  • Identify and remediate digital content gaps impacting conversion, discoverability, or customer experience  

Digital Merchandising & Discoverability 

  • Develop and execute digital merchandising strategies across categories and brands  
  • Own and optimize the end-to-end product discovery experience across navigation, filtering, faceting, and onsite search  
  • Improve SEO performance across product detail pages (PDPs), category pages, and search experiences  
  • Optimize content and structured data for AI-powered search and emerging digital commerce experiences  
  • Drive product placement, recommendation, cross-sell, and upsell strategies  
  • Monitor search behavior, customer intent trends, and product findability metrics to improve customer journeys and conversion  

Analytics & Performance Optimization 

  • Analyze category, brand, customer, and product performance trends to identify optimization opportunities  
  • Leverage Google Analytics, ecommerce insights, and behavioral data to improve digital merchandising and product content effectiveness  
  • Develop KPIs, dashboards, and performance reporting across discoverability, engagement, conversion, and content quality  
  • Lead testing and experimentation initiatives to improve product presentation and customer engagement  
  • Translate insights into prioritized actions that improve traffic, conversion, and revenue performance  

Customer Experience & Cross-Functional Leadership 

  • Partner with Merchandising, and Marketing teams to improve digital shopping experiences  
  • Define best practices for PDP experiences and digital product storytelling  
  • Support personalization and recommendation initiatives that improve customer engagement  
  • Drive alignment between supplier content, merchandising strategy, and customer-facing digital experiences  
  • Influence roadmap prioritization for digital merchandising and product content capabilities  
  • Indirectly and directly responsible for product quality
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

  • 8+ years of ecommerce, digital merchandising, product content, or digital experience leadership  
  • Strong understanding of ecommerce conversion optimization, SEO, onsite search, taxonomy, and customer journey strategy  
  • Experience developing scalable product content governance and merchandising processes  
  • Strong analytical skills with experience leveraging Google Analytics and ecommerce performance data  
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders across business and technology teams  
  • Experience partnering with suppliers, merchants, and ecommerce teams to improve digital product experiences  
  • Understanding of AI-driven search, structured product data, and emerging ecommerce technologies preferred
