What is the difference between Development Coordinator vs Fundraising Coordinator?

AspectDevelopment CoordinatorFundraising Coordinator
Primary FocusOverall development activities, including grants, donor relations, and program supportSpecific fundraising campaigns and events
Required SkillsFundraising, project management, communicationFundraising, event planning, donor engagement
Work EnvironmentNonprofits, educational institutions, community organizationsNonprofits, charities, advocacy groups

While both roles support nonprofit growth, a Development Coordinator handles a broader range of development activities, including grants and donor relations, whereas a Fundraising Coordinator focuses specifically on fundraising campaigns and events. The roles often overlap but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are some common challenges faced by development coordinators when managing multiple fundraising initiatives simultaneously?

Development Coordinators often juggle several fundraising campaigns, events, and donor communications at once, which can make time management and prioritization challenging. Balancing competing deadlines while ensuring each initiative receives adequate attention requires strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances. Clear communication with team members and stakeholders is crucial to avoid overlaps or gaps in outreach, and utilizing donor management software can help streamline processes. Over time, these challenges can lead to valuable experience in project management and open doors to more senior roles within nonprofit development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a development coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Development Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in fundraising or nonprofit administration, typically backed by a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Familiarity with donor management systems (such as Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce), event planning software, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are commonly required. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and multitasking abilities distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are vital for effectively managing fundraising campaigns, donor relations, and ensuring the success of development initiatives.

What is a development coordinator?

A development coordinator helps organize and administer fundraising efforts for a non-profit organization. As a development coordinator, your primary duties include scheduling and planning fundraising events, monitoring staff and volunteer calendars and attendance at events, and overseeing event budgets and resources. To pursue a career as a development coordinator, you need a high school diploma or equivalent and familiarity with the non-profit sector. Some employers prefer candidates with administrative, event planning, or customer service experience.

Is being a development coordinator hard?

Being a development coordinator can be challenging as it involves managing multiple projects, coordinating with teams, and meeting fundraising or program goals. The role requires strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills, often within a fast-paced environment.

Job description

Who We Are:

Being naked is the #1 most sustainable option. We're #2.

Since 2009, we've been on a mission to bring sustainable fashion to everyone. Named one of Fast Company's Brands That Matter and winning a Best Carbon Footprint award, we have big goals like being Climate Positive by 2025, Circular by 2030, and pushing the whole industry forward along the way. Our work has gotten love in Drapers and Sourcing Journal, and TIME wrote about how great our CEO, Hali Borenstein, is. Basically, we're saving the Earth and looking damn good doing it.

We're a global brand with 50+ stores (and counting) around the world, and our own sustainable factory in LA. We innovate across categories like accessories, swimwear, and sleepwear, and we reach millions of people with campaigns like this, this and this.

None of this work is possible without the incredible people behind it. We're a mission-based company that invests in an inclusive culture, so we can innovate together and ensure everyone has the space to grow, thrive, and belong.

And starting right now, we want to do all that with you.

The Role: Client Development Coordinator

Scope: Full-Time

Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)

Team Overview:

The Customer Strategy team is dedicated to creating meaningful, long-term relationships with our most engaged customers. Through personalized outreach, exclusive experiences, and data-driven insights.

As our Client Development Coordinator, you will directly drive revenue growth and maximize customer lifetime value by executing high-converting, personalized outreach strategies. Partnering closely with the Customer Strategy team, you'll translate luxury trends into sales, manage and scale a personal client book, and consistently exceed individual conversion goals and performance metrics through targeted outreach, private styling appointments, and seamless end-to-end management. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves fashion, has exceptional taste, and thrives on building relationships that feel thoughtful, personal, and authentic.

What You'll Do:

Client Development

  • Convert VIP outreach into measurable revenue through proactive, personalized targeted communication strategies designed to deepen brand loyalty.
  • Maximize styling appointment volume and conversion rates by leading proactive outreach, scheduling appointments with curated inventory pulls, and ensuring flawless end-to-end client follow-up.
  • Analyze client profiles to unlock revenue opportunities, utilizing deep product knowledge to style clients and drive incremental orders.

Trend & Customer Insights:

  • Translate brand approved voice and tone into effective customer communication via email and SMS.
  • Surface customer insights, shopping patterns, and competitive findings to inform strategy.
  • Stay ahead of cultural and fashion trends across social platforms including TikTok, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Program Support:

  • Partner with Retail, Customer Strategy, and Cross-functional teams to support Client Development initiatives.
  • Maintain customer profiles and ensure data accuracy within clienteling tools.
  • Assist with reporting, campaign execution, and ongoing program optimization.
  • Support VIP events, activations, and special customer experiences as needed.

What You'll Bring:

  • 2-4+ years of experience in fashion retail, styling, clienteling, CRM, or customer experience.
  • Strong understanding of luxury or contemporary fashion and exceptional trend awareness.
  • Experience building customer relationships through personalized service or outreach.
  • Comfort using CRM or clienteling platforms to manage customer engagement.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Who You Are:

  • Passionate about fashion, styling, and creating memorable customer experiences.
  • Naturally curious with sharp instincts for trends, culture, and customer behavior.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive, with a high standard for execution and communication.
  • A relationship builder who enjoys connecting with people both in-store and digitally.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally and bringing new ideas to the table.
  • Proactive self-starter who goes the extra mile, thrives on building from the ground up, pursues results, and is excited to help build and scale a best-in-class Client Development program

Compensation:

At Reformation, we believe in transparency and equity when it comes to compensation. For this role, the anticipated base hourly range is $25-$28 / hr, depending on a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal compensation equity.

This role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a range of factors, including company performance, department goals, and individual contributions. Bonus amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed and are determined at the company's discretion.

Please note that compensation decisions are made thoughtfully and may vary from the listed range to reflect individual circumstances and evolving business needs. Our total rewards package also includes benefits, perks, and opportunities for growth that contribute to overall compensation.

Benefits & Perks:

  • Eligible employees get employer-sponsored private medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as commuter benefits to help support your travel to and from work.
  • We offer competitive paid time off policies including vacation, sick leave, and company holidays for eligible employees.
  • We offer retirement planning support for eligible employees, including the option to invest in Environmental Social Governance-aligned (fancy way to say sustainable) funds.
  • We're a mission-based company with offices in LA, NYC and London, as well as a global retail team, which means you'll get to collaborate with people all around the world.
  • You'll get access to fertility care support through Carrot, and up to a $5,000 USD reimbursement for related fertility expenses after 1 year of employment.
  • We care about the causes our employees care about so we donate to community efforts on a yearly basis.
  • We offer a clothing discount, culture events (like our annual Ref Values week and Volunteer Time Off), you know, all the meaningful and fun stuff!

Reformation is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. We're committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that reflects the world we want to live in. All qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status-in accordance with applicable international, federal, state, and local laws.

If you require accommodations during the application or interview process, please let us know. We're here to ensure you have what you need to show up as your best self.

Still don't know if you should apply? We get it-studies show that many women and individuals from historically underrepresented communities hold back from applying unless they meet every single requirement. At Reformation, we're all about growth, not gatekeeping. If you're passionate about the role and excited about making fashion more sustainable, we'd love to hear from you. If this role doesn't totally excite you, consider applying to our general application.
