The Prince George's County Department of Health is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Community Development Assistant (Community Development Assistant I/IIA) grade A12/14 position, in the Family Health Services Division (WIC Program) Division. *Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.* About the Position This is entry level para-professional community development work in support of professional staff in such areas as (1) community liaison/development/advocacy, or (2) social services among client populations (e.g., youth, aged, community action, housing development, health, etc.). Work is performed under close supervision of a Community Developer position or other designated supervisory position and is evaluated in terms of technical accuracy and conformance with established procedures, guidelines, rules and regulations

Upon the satisfactory completion of a probationary period, entry level incumbents may be non-competitively promoted to the II full performance level at management's discretion. About the Agency The Prince George's County Health Department's (PGCHD) vision is that all Prince Georgians are their healthiest at every age and every stage. Their mission is to lead, engage, and empower our community to work collaboratively towards disease prevention, health equity, and total well-being.

The PGCHD works to protect and support the public's health through numerous services that range from restaurant inspections and disease tracking to care coordination and health promotion. The department is composed of four divisions: Behavioral Health Services, Environmental Health and Disease Control, Family Health Services, and Health and Wellness, supported by the Office of Administration, Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Health Officer. The mandate of the department has been, and will remain, broad.

This plan emphasizes improving core functions and operations, including protecting the public from health threats, implementing strategies to support healthy living, and maintaining a focus on vulnerable populations, while developing efficient internal processes to support these activities. Examples of Work Performs entry para-professional assignments. Assists with the conducting of fact-finding and assessment of client needs.

Screens for financial and residential eligibility in accordance with federal and state WIC guideline/regulations. Interprets assessment data and accurately determines nutrition risk according to State WIC policies and procedures. Assigns and documents appropriate food packages based on current WIC policy and procedures found in the WIC Local Agency Procedure Manual.

Assists with the planning, development, and enforcement of regular scheduled programs and special events or activities for clients; assists with the development and implementation of plans to establish liaison with and acquire support services. Collaborates with other coworkers and supervisors to accomplish program mission and goals. Assists with the establishment and maintenance of supplies, equipment, transportation and other logistical services.

Prepares and submits reports and data for management purposes. Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration: Graduation from high school, supplemented by college level courses in business, psychology or sociology Experience in work requiring independent action based on mature judgment Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.
