We expanded into Houston in 2022 and Toronto in 2023, strengthening our North American presence. We specialize in the design, procurement, and construction management of mineral processing facilities.

As a Mechanical / Platework Designer, you will be responsible for the development of detailed design deliverables, including 3D models, 2D drawings, and fabrication packages for mineral processing facilities.

This role focuses on the design of platework equipment such as chutes, hoppers, bins, tanks, liners, and related components. Working closely with mechanical engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will ensure that all deliverables meet project requirements, fabrication standards, and constructability expectations.

This position follows a hybrid work model, combining office presence and remote work, and reports to the Principal Designer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with engineers and other disciplines to ensure alignment with project requirements
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from engineering
  • Assist in resolving design issues during fabrication, construction, and commissioning
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with project specifications, company standards, and applicable codes
  • Contribute to the improvement of drafting standards, workflows, and best practices
  • Promote and apply safety principles in design and execution
  • Meet all role-specific HSE responsibilities, accountabilities, and KPIs as defined in the Primero HSE Management System

What We're Looking For

  • Vocational Diploma (DEP) in Drafting or equivalent experience
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in mechanical drafting and platework design within the mining or mineral processing industry
  • Strong experience in the design of chutes, hoppers, bins, liners, and platework structures
  • Proven experience producing detailed fabrication drawings and workshop-ready packages
  • Strong understanding of platework fabrication, welding practices, and material handling equipment
  • Experience in 3D modelling and production of 2D drawings from 3D models
  • Understanding of structural interfaces and coordination with multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and best practices (imperial and metric)
  • Experience in EPC/EPCM environments, including exposure to construction and commissioning
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in CAD software for 2D and 3D design (e.g., AutoCAD, Advance Steel, or similar tools)

Additional Assets:

  • Knowledge of wear materials, liners, and material flow considerations
  • Experience working with fabricators and reviewing shop drawings
  • Ability to optimize designs for fabrication and installation efficiency

Key Strengths

  • Detail-oriented with strong focus on accuracy and quality
  • Practical and solution-oriented mindset with strong constructability awareness
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Safety-focused approach in both design and work practices
