What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Design Recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Design Recruiter, you need a strong understanding of design roles, talent sourcing, and recruitment processes, typically grounded in experience in HR or recruiting and familiarity with design industry standards. Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS), portfolio review platforms, and networking tools like LinkedIn is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, creative thinking, and the ability to assess both technical and cultural fit help set outstanding candidates apart. These skills ensure you can attract, evaluate, and secure top design talent, directly impacting a company's creative success and innovation.

How does a Design Recruiter typically collaborate with hiring managers and design teams during the recruitment process?

Design Recruiters play a key role in bridging the gap between hiring managers, design teams, and candidates. They work closely with hiring managers to understand the specific skills, portfolio expectations, and cultural fit needed for each design role. Throughout the process, Design Recruiters often participate in portfolio reviews, coordinate interviews, and provide feedback to both candidates and internal stakeholders. This collaboration ensures the recruitment process is aligned with the team’s creative vision and organizational goals, resulting in better hiring outcomes.

What are design recruiters?

Design recruiters are specialized talent acquisition professionals who focus on finding, evaluating, and hiring candidates for design-related roles such as graphic designers, UX/UI designers, and creative directors. They work closely with companies to understand the specific skills and experience required for design positions and often have a strong understanding of design principles themselves. Design recruiters may work in-house for a single company or at recruitment agencies serving multiple clients. Their goal is to match talented designers with organizations that need their expertise, ensuring a good fit for both parties.

About Pinterest:
Millions of people around the world come to our platform to find creative ideas, dream about new possibilities and plan for memories that will last a lifetime. At Pinterest, we're on a mission to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love, and that starts with the people behind the product.
Discover a career where you ignite innovation for millions, transform passion into growth opportunities, celebrate each other's unique experiences and embrace the flexibility to do your best work. Creating a career you love? It's Possible.
At Pinterest, AI isn't just a feature, it's a powerful partner that augments our creativity and amplifies our impact, and we're looking for candidates who are excited to be a part of that. To get a complete picture of your experience and abilities, we'll explore your foundational skills and how you collaborate with AI.
Through our interview process, what matters most is that you can always explain your approach, showing us not just what you know, but how you think. You can read more about our AI interview philosophy and how we use AI in our recruiting process here.
We're seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as a Lead Product Design Recruiter. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in managing candidates through our interview process, while growing and scaling our Product Design team and supporting other Non-Engineering Technical organizations at Pinterest. The ideal candidate will have experience and expertise in full-cycle recruiting, strategizing complex searches, building meaningful relationships with recruiting team peers and key stakeholders, and hiring stellar candidates into Pinterest.
What you'll do:
  • Oversee recruiting for multiple domains (Product Design, Qualitative & Quantitative Researcher's, Content Designers, Technical Program Managers, IT/Operations), spanning different levels across those teams, leveraging innovative sourcing strategies to attract top talent and ensure hiring goals are met.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive sourcing plans, including talent pooling, market mapping, and competitor analysis.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers, key stakeholders (e.g., HR, Compensation, etc), Sourcing partners to align recruiting strategies with organizational goals.
  • Manage pipeline activity, maintain data integrity, and provide data-driven updates to stakeholders to inform decisions.
  • Lead initiatives to improve and scale recruiting operations, including onboarding and training recruiters, setting performance expectations, and driving hiring strategies.
  • Drive the offer process, including negotiations and closing candidates, while managing team goals and performance outcomes.
  • At Pinterest our Recruiters and Sourcers use AI to build and refine their sourcing strategies. You'll be expected to use AI to:
    • Translate hiring manager needs into clear, actionable search strategies.
    • Understand the talent landscape and map companies, teams, talent clusters, and candidate movement.
    • Craft compelling, personalized, and relevant outreach that improves response rates - while keeping communications human, inclusive, and role-relevant.

What we're looking for:
  • 8+ years full-cycle technical recruiting experiences with a focus on Product Design.
  • Proven track record of engaging passive candidates, building diverse pipelines, and providing inclusive candidate experiences.
  • A data-driven mindset and approach to diagnose issues, prioritize work, and communicate tradeoffs, risks, and insights.
  • Ability to work in a fluid environment while staying flexible, and organized along the way
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment while staying highly organized and accountable.
  • Quick to ramp on new recruiting tools and workflows (e.g., ATS, LinkedIn Recruiter, sourcing platforms, and scheduling tools).
  • The ability to use AI as a partner and not a decision maker. Clear understanding of how to use AI responsibly with privacy, inclusion, and candidate experience in mind.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, a related field or equivalent experience."
