What is a design recruiter?

Design recruiters are specialized talent acquisition professionals who focus on finding, evaluating, and hiring candidates for design-related roles such as graphic designers, UX/UI designers, and creative directors. They work closely with companies to understand the specific skills and experience required for design positions and often have a strong understanding of design principles themselves. Design recruiters may work in-house for a single company or at recruitment agencies serving multiple clients. Their goal is to match talented designers with organizations that need their expertise, ensuring a good fit for both parties.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a design recruiter?

To thrive as a Design Recruiter, you need a strong understanding of design roles, talent sourcing, and recruitment processes, typically grounded in experience in HR or recruiting and familiarity with design industry standards. Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS), portfolio review platforms, and networking tools like LinkedIn is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, creative thinking, and the ability to assess both technical and cultural fit help set outstanding candidates apart. These skills ensure you can attract, evaluate, and secure top design talent, directly impacting a company's creative success and innovation.

How does a design recruiter typically collaborate with hiring managers and design teams during the recruitment process?

Design Recruiters play a key role in bridging the gap between hiring managers, design teams, and candidates. They work closely with hiring managers to understand the specific skills, portfolio expectations, and cultural fit needed for each design role. Throughout the process, Design Recruiters often participate in portfolio reviews, coordinate interviews, and provide feedback to both candidates and internal stakeholders. This collaboration ensures the recruitment process is aligned with the team’s creative vision and organizational goals, resulting in better hiring outcomes.

Job description

The Opportunity

Our Talent team's mission is to deliver exceptional hiring outcomes by creating an inclusive, engaging experience for candidates and employees alike. We identify and attract top talent, with a strong focus on early-career professionals and internal mobility.

We are hiring a Recruiter to help build our next generation of high-potential talent. You'll focus primarily on high-volume hiring for Sales and Operations / GTM roles. You'll own many candidate screens each day, help us scale our internal mobility culture, and bring fresh recruiting ideas to the table. If you are polished, detail-minded, motivated to build, and excited by volume + impact, this is your role.

You Will
  • Own full recruiting cycles - with a focus on early-career / entry-level hires

  • Source and engage high-potential candidates (new grads, 1-3 years' experience) to build robust pipelines.

  • Conduct a high volume of candidate screens daily, while maintaining consistency and candidate experience.

  • Partner with hiring managers and the recruiting team to plan hiring strategies, manage priorities, and deliver results.

  • Monitor recruiting metrics, identify bottlenecks, and propose improvements.

  • Serve as an ambassador of our employer brand - design outreach campaigns, referral initiatives, etc.

  • Experiment with and adopt modern recruiting tools (automation, AI-assisted sourcing, outreach personalization).

You Should Have
  • Bachelor's degree

  • 2+ years of recruiting experience (in-house or agency), ideally with some exposure to high volume hiring.

  • Exceptional organization skills; ability to track many parallel processes without dropping balls.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - you'll represent Flexport to many early-career candidates.

  • Detail orientation, especially in managing data, candidate handoffs, and feedback loops.

  • Comfort working with metrics and data - you'll use them to optimize your work.

  • A growth mindset - you enjoy learning, adapting, and improving processes.

  • Experience with sourcing automation tools, personalization of outreach, or employer branding initiatives.

Why Flexport
  • Hands-on recruiting impact - you'll directly shape our early-career and GTM talent pipeline.
  • Internal mobility focus - many of our hires transition into other roles; you'll help map and support career paths within the company.

  • Cross-functional exposure - by focusing on GTM and operations, you'll learn how different business areas run.

  • Modern tools + experimentation - we encourage testing new sourcing / recruiting tech (e.g. AI-assisted tools, personalization, automation) to improve velocity and quality.

  • Mentorship and growth - you'll be developing under experienced recruiting leaders, with a clear path to senior recruiter / recruiting lead roles.

  • Culture that values feedback, creativity, and iteration - your ideas will be taken seriously, and you'll have space to try new things.
