What is a data warehouse project manager?

Data Warehouse Project Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of data warehouse projects within an organization. They coordinate teams of data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure that data storage, integration, and reporting solutions are implemented on time and within budget. Their role involves managing project timelines, resources, risks, and communication, as well as ensuring that the data warehouse meets business requirements. They also play a crucial part in aligning technical solutions with organizational goals and regulatory standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data warehouse project manager?

To thrive as a Data Warehouse Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, a background in data warehousing concepts, and experience with data modeling, ETL processes, and database systems. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Project, Jira, SQL, and data integration platforms, as well as certifications such as PMP or Agile, are typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help facilitate collaboration among technical and business stakeholders. These abilities ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational data strategy.

What are the main challenges faced by a data warehouse project manager when coordinating between business stakeholders and technical teams?

A significant challenge for Data Warehouse Project Managers is bridging the gap between business stakeholders, who focus on data-driven insights, and technical teams, who handle complex architectures and data integration. Ensuring clear communication around requirements, timelines, and deliverables is essential, as misalignment can lead to project delays or unmet objectives. Successful managers facilitate regular meetings, translate business needs into technical specifications, and proactively address roadblocks to keep everyone aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

Job description

Description:

At CSpring, we believe in the power of data to drive decisions and real-world impact. We’re a purpose-driven consulting firm specializing in data strategy, data engineering, and data analytics. Our clients span the public and private sectors, and our work helps them solve complex problems, gain insights, and achieve measurable results.

We're seeking talented professionals who are collaborative, curious, and committed to making a difference that thrive at the intersection of data, technology, and business strategy. Whether you're passionate about transforming public programs, enabling executive decision-making, or modernizing legacy systems, you'll find meaningful work and purpose here.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Purposeful Projects – Improve systems that serve real people by delivering smarter data, streamlined processes, and strategic insight.
  • People-First Culture – We’re as committed to your growth as we are to delivering high-impact solutions. You’ll find support, autonomy, and community here.
  • Strategic, Hands-On Work – From data architecture and documentation to client workshops and solution delivery, you’ll influence every step of the process.
  • Collaborative Trust – Our clients rely on us to listen carefully, deliver consistently, and guide wisely. We partner with integrity, curiosity, and heart.

What You’ll Do

You will own the analysis work on data and technology projects from first conversation through user acceptance and go-live.

  • Lead requirements elicitation with business stakeholders, technical teams, and client leadership through interviews, workshops, and working sessions.
  • Translate business needs into clear, testable documentation — business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Map current and future state processes and make the gaps between them visible and specific enough to act on.
  • Profile and analyze source data to confirm that requirements are actually supportable, including writing your own SQL to check assumptions.
  • Build source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, and business rule documentation alongside data engineering teams.
  • Serve as the connective tissue between business and technical stakeholders, keeping both groups working from the same understanding.
  • Support agile delivery — refine the backlog, size and clarify stories, and participate in sprint ceremonies with the delivery team.
  • Plan and coordinate user acceptance testing, including test scenarios, business tester onboarding, and defect triage through resolution.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and scope changes early, and bring them to the project manager with options rather than just problems.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and status to client stakeholders in language they can act on.

Requirements:
  • 7+ years of business analysis experience on IT or data delivery projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to run requirements sessions with mixed business and technical audiences and drive them to decisions.
  • Strong documentation skills across BRDs, functional specs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Working SQL skills — enough to profile data, validate assumptions, and investigate discrepancies independently.
  • Experience with process mapping and workflow documentation using tools such as Visio or Lucidchart.
  • Hands-on experience in agile delivery, including backlog refinement and sprint ceremonies.
  • Experience planning and supporting user acceptance testing through sign-off.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the judgment to adjust for the audience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience on data warehouse, ETL, or business intelligence and reporting projects.
  • Background in government, public health, or healthcare environments.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid, public health data systems, HIPAA, or state and federal reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency with Azure DevOps, Jira, or Confluence for backlog and documentation management.
  • Exposure to data governance, data quality, or master data management initiatives.
  • Prior consulting or client-facing delivery experience.
  • CBAP, PMI-PBA, or agile certifications.

Come Build With Us

At CSpring, we unlock the potential of people and data. If you're ready to lead meaningful projects, collaborate with passionate teams, and grow your career in a people-first consulting environment—apply today!
