Purpose and Objective:
Ariba, Inc. seeks a Development Manager at our Palo Alto, CA location to set clear goals with team members, and inspire, and support them towards accomplishing these goals.
Expectations and Tasks:
Evaluate goal achievement in a fair and understandable way. Set up and constantly improve a high performing engineering organization with high trust on all levels of roles and collaboration, striving for best-in class engineering processes. Be responsible for supporting the success of not only the direct reports, but also the success of all employees within the larger team, by helping to identify development opportunities and supporting team members to achieve their goals. Act as a coach and a mentor to help with personal development. Conduct deliverable reviews, providing performance feedback while establishing a safe space for developers to effectively learn and grow. Accountable for technical realization of the requirements within the capacity of the engineering team (team health). Contribute to change management and drive engineering excellence and continuous improvement within the engineering team. Clarify implementation approach and plan execution with the engineering team. Connect product vision, goals, and user requirements to organizational goals and help team members with translation into relatable individual and team goals. Partner with Product Management and User Experience to translate the overall outcome-based roadmap and vision into a product backlog and prioritization in a manner clearly understandable to the development team. Perform at least 30% hands-on technical tasks and responsibilities in addition to team management, coaching, and development. Ensure product requirements, as well as non-functional requirements are built, tested, and maintained. Own technical leadership and decide on how the product is implemented. Be accountable for technical decisions within the engineering team. Collaborate with Product Management on prioritization of the backlog. Own the technology decisions and resource investments which include framework or architecture or tooling. Ensure compliance of software development processes with relevant standards, regulations, and legal requirements. Ensure clear "definitions of ready" and "definitions of done" are defined and adhered. Manage third party contractors and suppliers for engineering. Drive attainment of product and service quality Service-Level Agreements (SLAs). Define and align non-functional backlog items with Product Management. Identify and address potential delivery risks that may impact the success of the product. Attend Agile Team ceremonies. Ensure supportability of the product such as telemetry, performance, health check monitoring and customer feedback channels. Ensure that the service quality is continuously driven via root cause analysis and preventive actions. Drive adherence to support metrics and ensure 24/7 support as a Manager on Duty, and Developer on Duty roles.
Education and Occupational Experience:
Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field of study and seven (7) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or related occupation. Alternatively, a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field of study and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
Qualifications/Skills and Competencies Experience:
Experience must involve five (5) years in the following:
  • DevOps; and
  • CI/CD.

Experience must involve two (2) years in the following:
  • Kubernetes;
  • Docker;
  • Groovy; and
  • Site Reliability Engineering Practices.
