What is a customer account executive?

Customer Account Executives are professionals responsible for managing relationships with clients, ensuring their satisfaction, and addressing any issues or concerns they may have. They act as the main point of contact between a company and its customers, handling account management, upselling services, and resolving problems to maintain long-term partnerships. Their role often involves communicating with clients, understanding their needs, and working with internal teams to deliver solutions that meet those needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a customer account executive?

To thrive as a Customer Account Executive, you need strong sales acumen, relationship management skills, and a background in business or communications, often supported by a bachelor’s degree. Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) software like Salesforce and familiarity with sales analytics tools are typically required. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities help individuals excel in building trust and resolving client concerns. These skills are vital for driving client satisfaction, revenue growth, and long-term business partnerships.

How does a customer account executive typically collaborate with other departments to resolve client issues?

Customer Account Executives work closely with teams such as sales, technical support, and billing to ensure client needs are met efficiently. When a client issue arises, they often act as the main point of contact, coordinating with internal experts to gather information and provide timely solutions. This cross-functional collaboration helps build trust with clients and ensures a seamless customer experience. Being proactive in communication and maintaining detailed records are key aspects of this collaborative process.

  • Maintain regular account reviews and strategic business planning sessions with customer leadership;
  • Understand customer business objectives, challenges, and market drivers to effectively position Sapiens solutions;
  • Monitor competitive activity, industry trends, and emerging technology needs across the insurance marketplace;
  • Own the end-to-end sales cycle for expansion opportunities, including:
    • Opportunity identification and qualification;
    • Executive presentations and solution positioning;
    • Proposal development and contract negotiations;
    • Coordination of Proof of Concepts and demonstrations;
    • Commercial negotiations and deal closure;
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and execute account growth strategies;
  • Maintain accurate pipeline, forecasting, and customer information within CRM systems;
  • Consistently achieve and exceed revenue growth and retention objectives.

Skills & Requirements

  • 7+ years of enterprise software sales, strategic account management, or Account Executive experience within the insurance technology industry;
  • Proven success growing revenue within existing customer accounts through cross-sell, upsell, and account expansion strategies;
  • Experience selling complex software solutions to Life & Annuities, Property & Casualty, or specialty insurance carriers;
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a demonstrated ability to engage and influence C-level executives and senior business leaders;
