Job description

Zurich North America is hiring a Sr. Corporate Counsel โ€“ Corp Governance to join our Legal team! We are open to hiring talent in our Schaumburg, IL Corporate Headquarters. 

In this role you will be responsible to:

  • Identify, manage and mitigate legal, regulatory and corporate governance risks, to enable the business to achieve its strategic and commercial goals in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and to protect and preserve Zurichโ€™s tangible and intangible assets.
  • The role holder provides in-house legal, regulatory and governance advice on Governance, , Communications, Investor Relations, IT, Data Protection, Group Operations, Mergers & Acquisitions, Finance, and Regulatory Affairs.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Corporate Legal โ€“ Regulatory, Governance and Company Secretariat
  • Ensure legal advice accurately reflects applicable laws and regulations.
  • Promote the practice of the organizational values, ethical and responsible business conduct.
  • Provide a full range of legal advice and services on corporate legal issues relevant to objectives set by the Corporate Legal Team Lead/General Counsel which may include concerning Governance, Communications, Investor Relation, Regulatory Affairs, Finance and Capital Market transactions, Sourcing, IT, Data Protection.
  • Proactively detect and resolve material legal and regulatory issues.
  • Report on and escalate material legal and regulatory risks and issues.
  • Address potential conflicts between management and legal entity view by either aligning the two views or by actively identifying and managing the divergences.
  • Business Travel, as required
  • Extended Hours during Peak Periods, as required
  • Regular Predictable Attendance
  • Visibility in the Office, as required

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor and 6 or more years of experience in the Legal area
    AND
  • Member of the Bar
  • Knowledge of NILS, Lexis or Westlaw

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Insurance Industry experience
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to applyโ€”your unique background matters to us. The proposed Salary range for this position is $126,700.00 - $150,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
