Project Overview:

The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will participate in subcontract formation and/or administration. Subcontract formation includes leading preparation and review of bid request packages and developing project contracts operating procedures. Subcontract administration includes continual progress review, forecasting, and communication of difficulties. Your work will ensure subcontract compliance with project requirements.

"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership".

Major Responsibilities:

Subcontract Management

  • Implements the Supply Chain Assignment Schedule which records the Project’s agreed assignment of various subcontract management tasks and the Standard Work Process Procedures applicable to Subcontract Management
  • Manages assigned subcontracts maintaining a continual review of progress and providing management with information regarding projected financial or technical difficulties 
  • Coordinates with designated staff on operational activities affecting contractual rights and obligations, subcontract performance, subcontract management and other major matters 
  • Manages complex contract changes by negotiating with customer personnel and obtaining settlement 
  • Represents Bechtel in contractual discussions of moderate complexity 

Subcontract Formation 

  • Leads preparation of bid request packages, addenda, and other bid cycle correspondence to ensure proper format, content and project requirements are met 
  • Reviews bid tabulations for accuracy, bidder recommendation, completeness, and approves selection of suppliers within delegated approval authority 
  • Reviews and recommends bid selections that require higher approval authority 
  • Executes commitments within delegated signing authority 
  • Develops, monitors, and maintains project master contracts forms, including legal and commercial terms and conditions to be included in the project contracts documents 
  • Directs negotiations and prepares proposed negotiating plan in the commitment and resolution of commercial conditions of contracts when such action is agreed as necessary by the designated supervisor 
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Highly developed negotiation skills supported by commercial insight and emotional intelligence. Ability to influence internal stakeholders (engineering, project controls, procurement) and external parties (contractors, suppliers, clients) to achieve balanced, defensible outcomes
  • Proven ability to administer complex contracts in accordance with agreed procedures, ensuring notices, records, approvals, and communications are contractually compliant. Strong governance mindset, including audit readiness and adherence to internal contract management frameworks
  • Expertise in managing variations, extensions of time, and claims from identification through substantiation and resolution. Strong capability in assessing entitlement, quantum, and strategic response to protect the company’s commercial position.
  • Demonstrated leadership in setting contracting strategy, mentoring junior contracts staff, and exercising sound professional judgement under pressure. Ability to balance contractual rights with project outcomes, safety, relationships, and value.
  • Proven ability to provide solutions and mitigations to complex challenges
