Position Summary
Kinkaid Civil Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager – Underground Wet Utilities to lead multiple complex heavy civil infrastructure projects from preconstruction through final closeout. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing project performance, financial success, client relationships, risk management, and the development of project teams.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing municipal and private underground wet utility projects, including water, sewer, and storm drain systems, while providing leadership to Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and field personnel.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage multiple underground wet utility construction projects from award through final closeout.
- Provide leadership and oversight for Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and project support staff.
- Oversee project scope, budgets, schedules, forecasting, cash flow, and overall project performance.
- Coordinate project startup activities and establish successful execution plans.
- Monitor project financial performance, cost reports, forecasting, and profitability while communicating project status to executive leadership.
- Review and approve subcontract agreements, purchase orders, invoices, change orders, and project documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, contract requirements, project specifications, quality standards, and company procedures.
- Identify project risks early and implement proactive solutions to maintain schedule and budget objectives.
- Lead value engineering efforts and participate in strategic planning throughout project execution.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, municipalities, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
- Support estimating and preconstruction teams during project transitions when needed.
- Conduct project reviews, lessons learned meetings, and customer satisfaction evaluations.
- Mentor and develop Project Managers, Project Engineers, and future leaders while supporting succession planning.
- Travel to project sites throughout Arizona as business needs require.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of Project Management experience in heavy civil construction.
- Extensive experience managing underground wet utility projects, including water, sewer, and storm drain systems.
- Proven experience managing large municipal, public works, or private heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and project financial management.
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple project teams simultaneously.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with Procore, HCSS HeavyJob, Bluebeam, AGTEK, or similar construction management software.
- Previous experience managing self-perform underground utility operations.
- Professional Engineer (PE), CCM, or other industry certifications.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing Project Managers and Project Engineers.
