Job description

Summary of Position:
This position is an office position that evaluates bid specifications and drawings to assemble complete and thorough project estimates. The estimator manages and coordinates the estimating of multiple projects in the water and wastewater treatment industry. Ideally, Estimators should have a background in water and wastewater construction with business, management, budgeting, and cost analysis skills. Estimators are skilled at getting the best out of the people they work with and the projects that they estimate. They thrive on estimating projects and working with project teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor available bidding opportunities.
  • Request proposals and estimates to inform stakeholders of new business, awards, or lost opportunities.
  • Prepare and finalizes bid packages; ensure delivery to sub-contractors/suppliers; organize historical information to be used in future estimates.
  • Order contract documents.
  • Maintain bidding schedule and dates.
  • Transfer contract documents for new projects into digital format.
  • Set up new projects in Bid2Win estimating software.
  • Compile and manage contact lists for sub-contractors, suppliers, and SDMWBE for new projects.
  • Update insurance requirements for new projects; send necessary information to the insurance company.
  • Facilitate coverage for pre-bid meetings; attend pre-bid and bid meetings.
  • Responsible for co-op performance evaluations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Educational background - Preferably a Bachelor's degree (at a minimum) in the fields of civil engineering, environmental engineering, and/or construction management
  • Experience estimating water/wastewater plant projects preferred
  • Proven working experience as an estimator
  • Solid technical background with understanding and hands-on experience
  • Excellent client relationship management and communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Working knowledge of Estimating Software preferred

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:
  • Frequent travel by car; Proof of insurance and a clean DMV record is required.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud.
  • Will be required to wear appropriate PPE equipment when in the field.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; sit; talk and hear. The employee may need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
