Position Summary
The Epic MD Informaticist is responsible for providing clinical leadership and physician-focused support during Epic EHR Go-Live events. This role bridges the gap between clinical operations and information technology by assisting physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, and operational teams with Epic workflow adoption, issue resolution, and optimization opportunities. The MD Informaticist serves as a trusted advisor during activation, helping providers navigate workflow changes while ensuring patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
The individual will work closely with project leadership, application teams, command center personnel, physician champions, and executive stakeholders to identify and resolve clinical workflow issues, facilitate communication between providers and technical teams, and promote successful adoption of the Epic platform.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Workflow Support
  • Provide at-the-elbow support to physicians and advanced practice providers during Go-Live.
  • Assess and troubleshoot clinical workflow challenges impacting patient care.
  • Assist providers with documentation, order entry, results review, medication management, and patient communication workflows.
  • Monitor provider adoption and identify opportunities for workflow optimization.
  • Support specialty-specific workflows across ambulatory, inpatient, emergency, and procedural areas.

Physician Engagement
  • Serve as the primary liaison between physicians and the Epic implementation team.
  • Collaborate with physician champions to encourage adoption and best practices.
  • Gather provider feedback and communicate enhancement requests to project leadership.
  • Facilitate physician rounding activities during Go-Live.
  • Promote consistent use of standardized workflows.

Clinical Issue Resolution
  • Identify, document, and escalate clinical workflow issues impacting operations.
  • Participate in command center activities and clinical escalation processes.
  • Coordinate with Epic analysts and operational leaders to resolve issues quickly.
  • Validate issue resolution and communicate updates to affected stakeholders.
  • Monitor patient safety concerns and assist with mitigation efforts.

Training and Knowledge Transfer
  • Reinforce Epic training concepts and workflow best practices.
  • Provide just-in-time education for physicians and clinical staff.
  • Develop workflow tips and educational materials as needed.
  • Support post-Go-Live optimization initiatives.

Operational Support
  • Participate in Go-Live readiness assessments and activation planning.
  • Attend daily leadership huddles and command center meetings.
  • Track provider support activities and issue trends.
  • Assist with workflow assessments and optimization recommendations.
  • Support transition from Go-Live to stabilization and hypercare phases.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Active and unrestricted medical license.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Experience utilizing Epic EHR in a clinical setting.
  • Previous Epic implementation, optimization, or Go-Live experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of physician workflows and clinical operations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced healthcare environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Epic Clinical Informatics experience.
  • Epic OpTime, Cupid, Stork, and Lumen.
  • Previous experience serving as a Physician Champion or Clinical Informaticist.
  • Experience supporting large-scale health system implementations.
  • Board Certification in a clinical specialty.
