A growing, multi-division specialty contracting organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial operations for its construction business.
What:
Oversee full financial operations including reporting, payroll, HR, job costing, and internal controls while providing strategic insights to leadership.

Salary:
$90,000-$120,000 per year
Job Summary:
The Controller will manage all aspects of accounting and finance for a multi-entity construction organization, including financial reporting, payroll, HR oversight, job costing, and internal controls. This role partners closely with leadership to provide actionable insights, support organizational growth, and maintain compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Lead month-end and year-end close, journal entries, and reconciliations
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and executive-level reporting
  • Develop and monitor KPIs and financial analytics for leadership
  • Oversee AP, AR, General Ledger, and job costing functions
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and other financial accounts
  • Support WIP reporting and project profitability analysis
  • Attend financial review meetings with operations teams
  • Coordinate with external auditors and CPAs
  • Serve as ERP system owner and maintain dashboards and workflows
  • Lead accounting team training, development, and process improvements
  • Provide HR oversight including onboarding, performance, compliance, and handbook updates
  • Manage payroll, benefits, and employee administration ensuring compliance

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (construction industry preferred)
  • Controller-level leadership experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (MBA or HR background a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of job costing, payroll, AP/AR, and financial reporting
  • ERP system experience required (Acumatica highly preferred)
  • Advanced Excel proficiency
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • High integrity, ownership mindset, and continuous improvement orientation
