REPORTS TO: Director- Project Management and Enterprise Architecture
PLACEMENT: Grade 112
HIRING RANGE: $29.13 - $30.88

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of network infrastructure hardware and software. Provides complex, high level technical support for computer and network support and end-user's network-based applications.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Install, configure, and monitor network infrastructure including switches, routers, servers, and cabling systems.
2. Develop and enforce standards for computer and network cabling, wireless systems, and infrastructure design.
3. Provide recommendations on policies, procedures, equipment, and long-term goals for network operations.
4. Survey and determine wire paths needed for network connectivity.
5. Install, troubleshoot, and maintain UPS hardware to ensure power reliability.
6. Install, troubleshoot and maintain patch panels, network cables, telephony and network equipment.
7. Configure and support wireless access points across campus locations.
8. Terminate, activate, and test cabling to ensure professional installation and reliable connectivity.
9. Support LAN and WAN links between buildings and to remote campus locations including leased lines.
10. Collaborate with internal and external clients to maintain strong working relationships.
11. Provide third level technical support for Technical Support Services and other college departments.
12. Handle fixed assets and equipment inventory including purchases, transfers, and reconciliations.
13. Perform professional network and other low volage wiring for offices, labs, and relocations, ensuring neat installations with wall plates, molding, and pipe.
14. Plan and execute network cabling, including path surveys, cable runs, terminations, and activation through servers, switches, and IDF systems.
15. Assist with server rack builds and hardware component installations/removals.
16. Contribute to departmental and institutional goals through active participation.
17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or closely related field. In lieu of Bachelor's degree, minimum of Associate degree and two (2) years of experience in system administration or networks may be substituted.
2. Minimum of two (2) years telecom/network experience.
3. Experience with IP routing, computing services, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), virtual networks, cloud services, network design and implementation.
4. Strong understanding and experiences with LAN and WAN fundamentals and related protocols is essential.
5. Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
6. Ability to work independently.
7. Computer experience with databases, MS Office, client/server technology.
8. Effective customer service skills.
9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
10. Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's or Associate degree in a related technical discipline
2. Microsoft, Cisco or equivalent networking certification.
3. Cisco, Microsoft or related experience.
4. Three (3) plus years of experience in computer networking.
5. Experience in managing systems that requires high security clearance.
6. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
7. Demonstrated multicultural competence.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Normal office physical demands.
2. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, climb ladders or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, see and hear, push/pull equipment and supplies.
3. Ability to lift, carry, stack and maneuver objects or equipment on a regular basis with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. is required
4. Vision requirements include close and distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
5. Ability to work from a ladder or power lift above ground to a height of 30 feet.
6. Be willing and able to go up in an open lift to heights of approximately 30 feet.
7. Ability to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.
8. Occasional travel for training/conferences is possible, both in state and nationally.


WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.
2. Display knowledge of safe operation of equipment while maintaining the level of safety required and exhibited by JJC, IDOL and OSHA requirements.
3. Availability for rotating schedule with other staff for coverage.
