Job description

Candidate will need to be qualified in installing, testing and certifying structured and patch panel cabling in a data center environment.

Introduction:

Black Box Network Services, the global leader in communication system integration, is looking for a Network Infrastructure Technician with a proven track record in:

  • Working in a structured cabling environment.
  • Installing single and multi-mode optical cabling.
  • Inspecting and cleaning installed optical cabling.
  • Installing copper cable to IEEE and BICSI cabling standards.
  • Testing installed cables using a Fluke Versiv Mainframe.
  • Decommissioning obsolete networking cabling infrastructure.
  • Working with elevated and underfloor cabling trays.
  • Assist in troubleshooting network equipment and cabling.
  • This position will support facilities management, site security and project engagement with a commitment and desire to satisfy our customer by completing all work at the highest level, always striving for perfection. The candidate must be motivated and self-driven for success.

Position Details:

  • Hourly position based upon experience & skill level
  • Tuesday - Saturday 3pm - 11pmย 
  • Location: ย Customer site - Phoenix, AZ
  • Client Addendum will need to be followed. ย Copy will be provided at the time of candidates offer.


Other Responsibilities Include:

  • The patching cabling between network equipment and customer's network.
  • The installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet.
  • The installation, troubleshooting and de-installing network equipment.
  • Install/swap out cables, switches routers and etc.
  • Complete all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels.
  • Provide infrastructure cabling break-fix services for network infrastructure.
  • Perform layer 1 troubleshooting
  • Support carrier testing of circuits.
  • Assist with facilities efforts.
  • Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral.
  • Water problems.
  • Emergency cooling restoration.
  • Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events.
  • Act as an interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project / operations / MAC management. ย 


Requirements:

  • Requires appropriate equipment training with high-speed fiber optic transport.
  • The ability to clean high speed single and multi-mode optical connections.
  • The ability to measure, transmit and receive on high-speed optics.
  • The knowledge and experience to work safely with high-speed single mode long range optical lasers.
  • Experienced with Fluke Versiv Mainframe
  • Requires experience in working in a data centers and communications closets.
  • Must be able to safely lift heavy objects.
  • Must understand cable patching processes and procedures.
  • Proven success troubleshooting layer 1 network concerns
  • Must be willing to work shift work which includes nights and weekends.


Experience and Education:

  • 2-5 yrs experience relevant experience, preferably at least 1 year in a data center environment
  • Must an in-depth knowledge of structured cablingย 
  • Knowledge of IEEE and BICSI cabling standards


Physical Requirements:

Heavy Work: May frequently exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 50 pounds and/or occasionally exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 100 pounds.
Vision: Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye.
Near Acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
Midrange: Clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
Far Acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
Peripheral: Ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point.
Depth Perception: Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.
Ability to adjust focus: Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
Color Vision: Ability to identify colors.
Speaking/Hearing: Possesses the ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening skills.
Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to stand; and walk. The incumbent is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
