As of Jun 22, 2026, the average hourly pay for computer builder in the United States is $22.82, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.71 and $25.48 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are computer builders?

Computer builders are professionals or enthusiasts who assemble computer systems by selecting and installing individual hardware components such as processors, memory, storage devices, graphics cards, and power supplies. They ensure that all parts are compatible and work together to meet the user's needs, whether for gaming, business, or general use. Computer builders may work for companies, provide custom builds for clients, or pursue the activity as a hobby.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

High-paying jobs that can reach $2,000 a day often include specialized roles such as experienced software developers, IT consultants, or freelance computer builders with advanced skills and certifications. These positions typically require significant expertise, a strong portfolio, or working as an independent contractor in high-demand areas like cybersecurity or custom hardware design.

What kind of job builds computers?

A computer builder is a professional who assembles, installs, and tests computer hardware components, often working in retail, custom PC shops, or as freelance technicians. They typically have knowledge of hardware compatibility, tools, and may hold certifications like CompTIA A+; work schedules can vary from full-time to freelance projects.

What is the difference between Computer Builder vs PC Technician?

AspectComputer BuilderPC Technician
CredentialsKnowledge of hardware components, certifications like CompTIA A+ helpfulCertifications like CompTIA A+ or Network+ often required
Work EnvironmentTypically DIY projects, custom builds, or small repair shopsWork in repair shops, service centers, or IT departments
Industry UsageUsed by hobbyists, custom PC builders, and small businessesEmployed in IT support, repair, and maintenance roles

The main difference is that a Computer Builder focuses on assembling and customizing computers, often for personal use or small-scale projects. A PC Technician, on the other hand, diagnoses and repairs computer issues in professional settings. While both roles require hardware knowledge and certifications like CompTIA A+, their work environments and primary responsibilities differ.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Builder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Builder, you need strong knowledge of computer hardware components, assembly techniques, and troubleshooting skills, often supported by relevant technical training or certifications like CompTIA A+. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, BIOS/UEFI systems, and inventory management software is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help ensure accurate builds and customer satisfaction. These skills are crucial for assembling reliable systems, diagnosing issues efficiently, and maintaining high-quality standards in a competitive technology market.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A computer builder can potentially earn $10,000 a month by working on high-end custom PC builds, especially if they run their own business or have a strong client base. Success in this field depends on skills, reputation, and the ability to market services, often without formal degrees but with technical knowledge and experience. Income varies widely based on workload, pricing, and market demand.

What jobs pay $10,000 a week?

High-paying jobs that can reach $10,000 a week often include specialized roles such as senior software engineers, IT consultants, or freelance tech contractors with in-demand skills. These positions typically require advanced expertise, certifications, or extensive experience, and may involve freelance or contract work with flexible schedules and high project rates.

What are some common challenges faced by Computer Builders when assembling custom PCs, and how can they be overcome?

Computer Builders often encounter challenges such as hardware compatibility issues, cable management difficulties, and ensuring effective thermal solutions. To overcome these hurdles, it's important to carefully research and select compatible components, follow manufacturer guidelines during installation, and use proper tools for cable routing. Staying organized and double-checking connections before powering on the system helps prevent errors and streamlines the build process. Additionally, collaborating with team members or consulting experienced builders can provide valuable insights and troubleshooting tips.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

EarnIn is making AI-native operations a core capability - not an initiative, but how our business functions are designed, run, and scaled. We're not hiring someone who dabbles in AI. We're hiring an AI builder who looks at every internal workflow and asks: how could an agent help humans do this better? You will build the agents, automations, and integrations that power how we hire, develop, and scale EarnIn's people and operations. The tools and automations you build will run in production, making real decisions for the teams that keep EarnIn operating - so the community we serve can access their pay when it matters most.

This is not a prompt engineering role. It is not a tools administrator role. You are a builder. The Mountain View base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$231,000, plus equity and benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. This is a hybrid position in Mountain View that requires in-office work 2 days a week. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship or immigration support for this position.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Agent development:  Build and deploy agents that automate high-volume People and Operations workflows - approvals, reporting, intake, reconciliation
  • Recruiting automation and analytics:  Automate screening, scheduling, and pipeline workflows so recruiters spend time on humans, not process; build reporting and AI-powered insights that surface real-time visibility into velocity, quality, cost, and other key recruiting metrics
  • Internal tooling:  Create lightweight internal apps that replace manual spreadsheet and email-based processes
  • Safe AI patterns:  Establish guardrails and review loops that keep automated decisions auditable and compliant

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 3+ years of full-time software engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience with LLM integration patterns - prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, tool/function calling, and agent architectures
  • Proficiency and comfort working across the stack when needed
  • Experience with MCP, LangChain, or comparable orchestration frameworks
  • Experience with open source LLM models
  • Strong opinions about developer experience and a track record of building things other engineers actually use
  • You can translate complex technical systems into clear, practical solutions for non-technical stakeholders and communicate clearly on deliverables
  • You are thoughtful about privacy, governance, and responsible AI, especially in an HR context where data is sensitive.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or similar tools) as part of your software development workflow?
  • Familiarity with HR and other key operations systems (Workday, Greenhouse, or similar) is a plus, not a requirement
