SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under general supervision, the Tool Builder is responsible for building, modifying, and maintaining tooling and fixtures that improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and repeatability. This role interprets engineering drawings and collaborates with manufacturing teams to deliver tooling solutions that meet production and quality requirements.
Reports to the Tooling (Design & Build) Manager
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  • Build and assemble fixtures and tooling to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and repeatability.
  • Design fixtures using CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent) as required.
  • Order materials and components needed for fixture construction.
  • Machine components such as stops, clamps, and pads using milling machines and lathes.
  • Weld and assemble tooling and fixtures
  • Hand layout of fixtures for location of shops, pad, and clamps.
  • Utilize material handling equipment to build and move fixtures safely.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to adjust, repair, and modify tooling.
  • Support production start-ups and troubleshooting activities
  • Complete and maintain required documentation.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
  • Adhere to all Super Steel and OSHA safety related work rules and procedures.
  • Travel as required.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • High school diploma or general education (GED) required.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
  • 5+ years of MIG welding experience (TIG and others a benefit).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing systems, steel fabrication, sheet and plate metals, and welding processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including weld symbols and GD&T.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including fractions, decimals, and unit conversions (metric and imperial).
  • Proficiency with hand tools and precision measurement equipment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Certifications:
Forklift and crane certification is required. Applicants must gain Super Steel certification within 30 days of employment and maintain it throughout their employment.

Protective Clothing Requirements:
Employee Safety is paramount at Super Steel. This position requires safety glasses and steel-toed shoes or boots, specialized protective overgarments and (where required) hearing protection worn at all times while on the factory floor. Occasionally, the need may arise for other protective clothing that Super Steel will provide.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; occasionally required to sit and talk; frequently required to hear, walk and continuously stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Continuously exposed to manufacturing noise.
