Position Responsibilities
  • Performs daily cart exchanges.
  • Addresses pharmacy telephones/window communication responding to inquires or request( note: phone etiquette) in a timely manner.
  • Timely processes nursing messages from Epic in-basket.
  • Process manual pick items as needed.
  • Accurately and timely handles (i.e. dispense tracking ), transport/deliver medications and supplies to appropriate areas (Hourly Rounds and as requested).
  • Prepare automated dispensing cabinets restock batch for delivery.
  • Reports out of stock to Pharmacist and or Buyer.
  • Restock/ Pick up / delivery of crash cart trays as per policy.
  • Follows Lunch and Dinner coverage schedules as posted.
  • Dispense and return Narcotics from Controlled Substance Manager (CSM Vault).
  • Accurately process medication returns and restocking to medication storage areas.
  • Performs basic billing functions.
  • Accurately packages and prepares medications for dispensing as assigned
  • Accurately prepares cart fills in a timely manner as assigned.
  • Complies with ongoing process to monitor outdates/ shortages and rotates stock as per policy.
  • Consistently follows Hospital Time and Attendance Policy.
  • Other Duties as assigned by Pharmacist/Leadership.
  • Accurately follows proper procedures for storage segregation of TPN's, neonatal TPN's ,and Neonatal solutions and IV lipids.
  • Accurately prepares pediatric medications as assigned.
  • Provides direction and training to other staff assigned.
  • Assist in supervision of technicians to ensure policies and procedures and regulatory requirements are uniformly and consistently followed.
  • Performs and monitors compliance for quality control and performance improvements functions as assigned.
  • Accurately and timely complete charge reconciliation.
  • Assist in the education of new pharmacy ADC users and serve as a resource for pharmacy and nursing staff for problems and/or questions.
  • Assist with drug ordering and inventory management as assigned.
  • Control Substance Manager (CSM) vault Expiration Audits and works with purchaser and Director of Pharmacy to address discrepancies.
  • Controlled substance Audits- assist in conducting control substance audits, reviewing diversion monitoring reports, Investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Assist with Optimization of automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs).
  • Accurately collects and documents medication history.
  • Performs Monthly patient care area inspections, documents and reports findings back to leadership.
  • Serves as an expert with equipment and technology. Problem solves technical issues as they arise.
  • Utilizes aseptic technique in preparation of Parental compounding, Neonatal, IV Admixtures.
  • Accurately records and logs compounded item in Dispense Preparation workflow.
  • Compliant with USP 797 daily/monthly/annual requirements (i.e. Cleaning laminar airflow cabinets and biological safety cabinets, wearing personal protective equipment, certifications etc.,) as assigned.
  • Assist in documenting waste generated by advanced preparations, compounding and repackaging - CNR, and medication returns.
  • Completes daily/weekly/monthly Simplifi documentation of temperature, pressure and humidity.
  • Completes daily/weekly/monthly cleaning and disinfecting of assigned areas as per USP 797 standards and documents upon completion of task.
  • Ensures proper receiving, labeling, handling, storage, packaging, shipping and transporting of compounding sterile product - CSP.
  • Understands certifications and recertification's of sterile compounding areas and the importance of microbial air and surface monitoring program.
  • Complies with beyond used dates and stability requirements.
  • Understands Out of Specification Events impacting sterile compounding areas, environmental controls and systems.
  • Completes initial and every 6 months fingertip sampling and aseptic manipulation testing.
  • Accurately documents dispense prep in epic system when compounding sterile preparations.
  • Follows guidelines and hospital policy on introducing items into the sterile compounding area.
  • Consistently follows personal hygiene and garbing requirements.
Qualifications
  • License/Registration/Certification
    • Active Pharmacy Technician Registration/License in the State of Florida required. National certification (CPhT) preferred.
  • Education
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience
    • Minimum at least one year hospital experience required or proof of completed USP 797 training program and competent to perform IV room/USP 797 tasks independently.
