Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician

The Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in the preparation of sterile compounded medications in accordance with USP <797>, applicable state Board of Pharmacy regulations, and internal pharmacy procedures. This role is responsible for performing sterile compounding activities, maintaining cleanroom standards, and ensuring accurate documentation of compounding processes to support safe and compliant pharmacy operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare sterile compounded medications under the supervision of a pharmacist following USP <797> guidelines.
  • Perform aseptic technique within laminar flow hoods, biological safety cabinets, or isolators.
  • Accurately measure, mix, and compound sterile medications according to approved formulations and prescriptions.
  • Label compounded preparations according to pharmacy policies and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain proper cleanroom procedures including garbing, hand hygiene, and aseptic technique.
  • Clean and disinfect sterile compounding areas, equipment, and work surfaces according to established procedures.
  • Assist with environmental monitoring activities as directed by pharmacy leadership.

Qualifications

  • Active pharmacy technician license in good standing
