Job Title: Compounding Manager
Job Description

The Compounding Manager leads daily operations in the Compounding and Pre‑Weigh departments, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality production. This role oversees staffing, scheduling, training, and process optimization while partnering closely with cross‑functional teams to maintain consistent output, support continuous improvement, and uphold strict quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of compounders and pre‑weigh staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance.
  • Plan and manage daily staffing and scheduling for Compounding and Pre‑Weigh to meet production demands and service levels.
  • Train and mentor new employees, ensuring they understand compounding procedures, GMP requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Optimize labor utilization, tank usage, and batching efficiency to maximize throughput and minimize downtime.
  • Manage bulk production schedules and coordinate closely with the Bulk Scheduler to align resources and timelines.
  • Partner with Research and Development (R&D) to implement best practices, scale up new formulations, and support technical transfers.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and lead initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency in compounding and pre‑weigh operations.
  • Support equipment repairs and maintenance activities, and participate in capital projects related to compounding and blending equipment.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting and manage spending to stay within financial targets while maintaining operational effectiveness.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and manage corrective actions when needed to support employee development and performance standards.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate supply levels of raw materials, packaging, and consumables required for compounding and pre‑weigh operations.
  • Support basic HR and payroll‑related tasks for the department, such as timekeeping review and coordination of schedule changes.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Control (QC), Warehouse, Chemical Receiving, R&D, Bulk, and Production teams to ensure smooth workflow and timely resolution of issues.
  • Ensure all compounding, blending, and sterilization activities follow established procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and quality standards.
Essential Skills
  • At least 8 years of experience in manufacturing or compounding environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with compounding, blending, and related chemical processing activities.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and their application in daily operations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and influence cross‑functional teams.
  • Proven leadership and management abilities, including team development and performance management.
  • Strong math skills and the ability to accurately read and follow written instructions and formulas.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move 300‑pound drums as required by production activities.
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Two years of college education or equivalent work experience.
  • Familiarity with weights, measures, and blending calculations (preferred).

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements.

Work Environment

This is a first‑shift role in a manufacturing environment focused on compounding, blending, and related chemical processing. The Compounding Manager works on the production floor and in office settings, coordinating closely with operations, quality, warehouse, and technical teams. The position involves regular interaction with processing equipment, bulk tanks, and drums, and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move 300‑pound drums. The environment is fast paced and safety‑focused, with strong adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices and established procedures to ensure consistent, high‑quality output.
