A compensation and benefits manager oversees how a company provides pay and benefits, such as health insurance or retirement plans, for its employees. Your job duties as a compensation and benefits manager involve assessing the number and type of employees, determining budgets, and figuring out the proper rates of pay and types of benefits that workers can accrue. You also work closely with management and the human resources department to determine overall policies and employee retention goals, and how benefits can make your organization competitive in attracting and retaining talent. At larger companies, you may specialize in either compensation or benefits.
